You can tell the true character of a man by his actions. When my dad (his older brother Jack) was near the end of his life Uncle Charles came to visit him often. I am sure they shared hunting and fishing stories and the like. After daddy passed Uncle Charles called each of us 5 kids for several months just checking in to see if we were OK. Love you Uncle Charles!

I first met Uncle Charlie when I was 5 and he was about 14. He took me on my first ever mule ride on the back of Francis. It was wild. I was sure I was going to fall off, but he kept a tight hold on me. He said if I didn't cry or tell anyone he made Francis run, I could wear his sailor's cap. We were buddies from that moment on. Even when he put rubber snakes and spiders to scare me, I still loved him. I will forever miss him. Goodbye, Uncle Charlie. I'll always miss your smile and your hugs. Sandy Lee

Charlie was a wonderful family friend, and co-worker and I was fortunate to know him in both capacities. Us co-workers in the Texas A&M AgriLife offices have reminisced about him as a person, and as a co-worker--the warm greeting we always received from him when he would enter our offices on a daily basis & he would provide his style of customer service "Charlie style"! Blessings to the family & love & prayers for my beautiful GodSon, Cory & beautiful niece, Ashley on the loss of their Paw-Paw Charlie.

DEAR BURNETT FAMILY,
JUST READING ALL THE WONDERFUL WORDS STATED BY MR. CHARLIE IS A LEGACY IN ITSELF. SO MANY PEOPLE'S LIVES HE TOUCHED IN A GOOD, POSITIVE WAY. THAT CAN'T BE SAID ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE THESE DAYS. I KNOW HE COMFORTED OUR FAMILY WHEN DADDY, HIS CO-WORKER, PASSED AWAY. HIS SMILE WILL BE WHAT I REMEMBER THE MOST ABOUT HIM. IT WAS ALWAYS THERE! I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT HE IS NO LONGER SICK AND IN PAIN. I PRAY THAT THE GOOD MEMORIES WILL HELP SUSTAIN YOU NOW AND IN THE FUTURE.

Charlie will be missed by all who were blessed to know and meet him. He was the person who stopped and helped you fix a flat or get gas when you ran out. He was a true recycler, finding treasures where ever he went, and always sharing them with the rest of us. He had the eye of an eagle when it came to tools lost on the road, and I will always keep his funny stories in my heart. May the kindness and love that Charlie shared with the world be given back to his family during this difficult time of loss. God's blessings to the family and all those who will miss him. I will glue a peanut to my tree in memory of him.----John DuPree

Charlie was a good friend. He always entered my office with a grin and typically with a 'hey, I gotta show you something', or a new rope trick or knot, or some type of light hearted fun. He led a completely full life always giving that spark of true contentment. One great memory of mine is when Charlie visited my house to teach knots to my Cub Scouts, and of course completely amazed them with rope tricks. I carry one of his ropes in my pocket now and try to carry on his fun. I will keep him forever in my memory and will now keep you, his family, in my thoughts.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time of bereavement. We did not know Charles that well but he helped my brother when he was in need and to me Charles, was a good person for those deeds of goodness. You gave anything you had to anyone in need, never had a bad word to say about anyone, always showed the world how much you love your wife and family...and those jokes--how you loved to tell a good joke! We will laugh a little bit less now; but the love you showed will live on in all of us.
