Our Dad, Charles Andre (Charlie) Carss late of Saskatoon, formerly of Rosetown, SK, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the age of 82 years. Charlie is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his four children: Penny (Harv) Speers of Medicine Hat, AB; Bev (Ross) Millar of Saskatoon, SK; Kevin (Peggy) Carss of Saskatoon, SK; Gayle (Peter) Lywood of Calgary, AB. Charlie is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his four children: Penny (Harv) Speers of Medicine Hat, AB; Bev (Ross) Millar of Saskatoon, SK; Kevin (Peggy) Carss of Saskatoon, SK; Gayle (Peter) Lywood of Calgary, AB. He will never be forgotten by his eight grandchildren: Jeff (Angelina and daughter Wednesday) Speers of Vancouver, BC; Rob (Brittany) Speers of Vancouver, BC; Angela (Mark Stodalka) Speers of Medicine Hat, AB; Jody (Pam) Carss of Calgary, AB; Ryan (January) Carss of Calgary, AB; Taylor (Matt O'Dell) Carss of Edmonton, AB; Evan Lywood and Sarah Lywood of Calgary, AB; and two great-grandchildren: Ryder Carss and Owen O'Dell. Charlie also leaves to mourn his passing, the mother of his children, Lorraine Robbie (Sanderson). He was born in Calgary, AB, but raised on the family farm near Rosetown, SK which his father homesteaded in 1905. He attended Rhondda and Hillside schools and attended high school in Saskatoon. He then worked various jobs in the Rosetown area, building the post office, water lines in town and for various farmers. He started farming the home quarter in 1950 and continued until 1994. Charlie enjoyed many fine years of retirement with his companion, Germaine Willmek. Charlie's life was enriched by Germaine and her family and was lovingly referred to as "Grampa Charlie", always being included in their family celebrations and Christmases. Charlie loved dancing, playing cards, puttering and fixing things, fishing, and bowling. Charlie is predeceased by his companion, Germaine Willmek, by his parents, Gladys and Ed and by his mother-in-law, Bertha Sanderson. A celebration of his life was held on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 2:00 pm at Rosetown United Church. Interment to follow at Rosetown Cemetery. Donations in memory of Charlie may be directed to Rosetown & District Health Centre Foundation, P.O. Box 653, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0.
