Retired Del City Police Officer, Charles Henry Day, 81, passed away on March 12, 2014 in OKC. Charlie was born on January 28, 1933 in Okemah, OK to Richard Floyd and Mary May (Hooley) Day.
Charles was a kind man who treated everyone with respect and courtesy. A great story teller, he enjoyed regaling us all with stories from his years on the police department. He enjoyed fishing, working in his vegetable garden, keeping his yard manicured and watching John Wayne movies.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Debra Fay Pooler. Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Gerri; children, Charles K. Day, Marty Marks (Melissa), Geary Marks (Carrie), Tina Haider; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Jane Hardesty (Jay Ownby).
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Billy Graham Ministries. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Sunnylane Southern Baptist Church. Condolences may be offered at www.eisenhourfuneral.com

Where do I begin? As the child growing up? Or the man who served under him?
Charlie was a friend, mentor, co-conspirator and cop all in one.
The friendly cop as I was a kid growing up in Del City.
My first Sergeant, when I joined the Department as a know-nothing communications officer, years later.
A fellow prankster, who found a kindred soul.
But most of all, a cop.
Oddly enough, the day he passed, my wife (Who worked with us briefly, before we were us) and I were telling Charlie Stories, remembering pranks he and I pulled on each other and had pulled on us by others. Laughter filled the house with happy memories of times gone by.
Followed by a sad call the next day.
Save me a place Charlie. I think I still have some bottle rockets I'll try to sneak in.....

Deepest sympathy to the family. Sorry to read of your great loss. The tender mercies of God can sustain you through this sad time. The passage in Psalm 62 verse 2 assures, "Indeed, he is my rock and salvation, my secure refuge, I will never be greatly shaken."

Rest In Peace Charlie, God knows you deserve it. Charlie was my Sergeant when I first went to work for the police dept. With his serious side, and his humorous side he was able to help me to be more understanding of the general public. My prayers are with his family during this sad occasion.
