He spent most of his professional career at the University of Michigan, appointed as an instructor in 1953 and full Professor in 1969. He served as Director of Keyboard Studies and as chair of the Piano Department for eleven years. He enjoyed spending the summers at Interlochen where he was the Director of the Piano Division of the All-State Program. For sixteen years, he and his colleague Eugene Bossart toured the south and Midwest as the Bossart-Fisher Piano Duo. Professor Fisher's eclectic interests led him to the harpsichord as a performer in the faculty Baroque Trio for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Fisher in 2009. He is survived by his three children, Charles (Jenny) Fisher Jr. of State College PA, Andrew Fisher (Jeffry Weisman) of San Francisco CA and Susan Fisher (Carla Scruggs) of Ann Arbor MI, and one granddaughter, Lisann (Justin) Koplin, and great-granddaughter Lilia Koplin. He and his wife enjoyed traveling the world with their close friends Cozy Grabb, Marilyn and Jack van der Velde, and Whit and Svea Gray. In accordance with Dr. Fisher's wishes, there will be no memorial service. However, a celebration of his life will be held in early Fall, 2014.
