What a great teacher and a great man.. He taught more than the assigned curriculum; he taught us about values. I was his student in 1970 and Mr Foyle stands out as one of the few truly memorable teachers I had in over 20 years of education..My condolences to the family, and my gratitude for having known him.

I will always remember Mr. Foyle, he was one of my favorite teachers! He was the first person to explain to me what a leap of faith was. I have many fond memories of him. I send my condolences to his family with the hope that knowing he touched so many of us as our teacher, gives them some comfort. He was a really great teacher.

Mr. Foyle was as gracious a role model as he was a gifted educator. I was lucky enough to have him twice at Kiva: in third and fifth grades. I rremember thinking how much he learned in those intervening two years! Please accept my sympathy for your loss and know that Mr. Foyle created a very large family of Kiva students, whose thoughts sustain you now in your time of grief.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family at this sad time. I was also one of Mr. Foyle's students at Kiva (class of 1970). When he arrived at the mini Kiva Kids reunion we had in 2008 (for Mr. Tate's homeroom), he was exactly the same as I remembered him! Please know Mr. Foyle had a great influence on many students. We will continue to try to be the kind of people he encouraged us to be.

Mr. Foyle was such an amazing and caring teacher. He taught us the love of learning and the importance of asking questions. Every student felt special and capable in his presence. He expected the best of us at all times and we learned the importance of expecting the best for ourselves. Mr. Foyle made such a positive impact on so many--his light lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him.

Mr. Foyle instilled in me a love of learning and of working hard. Every child should have a teacher like him. A remarkable man who will be truly missed. But his legacy lives on in the many students he taught and all the lives he touched. Kiva was so lucky to have him as was I!!

Chuck Foyle was an extraordinary man and incredible teacher. My father, a WW2 combat vet, had a great deal of respect for him. He taught me, my brother and my sister. He made a huge positive impression on all of us. If the world had more Mr. Foyle's, it would be a far better place. Rest in Peace...

I had so much respect for Mr. Foyle. He was so physically fit, and passionate about teaching. He was an inspiration to everyone, and if he felt he wasn't inspiring you enough, he'd scare inspiration into you, in a firm but caring way. A truly great man.

Mr. Foyle was my 6th grade teacher at Kiva in 1980-81. I remember him as one of the few teachers that had a lasting impression on me. He was a wonderful man and touched the lives of so many. He was tough, but always fair. Stern but always fun. What a wonderful man. I will remember him forever.

I am sure I am only one of hundreds of people who have fond memories of "Mr." Foyle. He was my teacher at Kiva 39 years ago, and he is easily one of my favorite teachers. I still share a few stories of my time in his class on occaision. My favorite is the chalkboard eraser that was 'tossed' (to put it mildly) at me from clear across the room, when I was not paying attention. He had great aim... I will always remember a large permanent dent in the side of the metal filing cabinet. A single bang on it with his hand was a very effective way of quieting everyone down when necessary. He was a good man and I am certain he had a positive effect on countless people. He is not gone from our memories..
November 29, 2012
Mr. Foyle was my favorite teacher. I had him in the 6th grade at Kiva Elementary School. I will never forget him. He was celebrating his 50th birthday the year I had him, and the day of his birthday, he went outside and did the standing broad jump to see how far he could jump, and he gave all of his students a Christmas Card with a .50 cent piece taped to the inside that year. One of my favorite childhood memories. My condolences to the family or Mr. Foyle. He was a wonderful man.

Mr. Foyle was my 5th grade teacher and my favorite teacher of all my schooling. He made such an impression on me that for the last 47 years whenever I would look back on that time, and often it was, that he would bring a smile to my face. To Ed and the rest of that big family, my heart goes out to you.

It was very sad to learn of Mr. Foyle's passing. I was fortunate to have him as my 5th grade teacher, at Kiva, (1965-1966). He was, by far, the most influential teacher I had growing up. In addition to being my first male teacher, he was our room's role model, mentor and hero. He had a way of making everyone think they were special in our class. There are many great stories from that year, but a typical one involved an afternoon "teacher vs. teacher" softball game. We told Mr. Foyle, he should hit a home run for us. We were shocked when he said, humbly, that he wasn't a very good baseball player. How could that be? He was good at everything! Well, as you can imagine, he hit that homerun ball so far over the centerfielder's head, it's probably still rolling! Right. We knew it! He was good at everything! I wish all children had the opportunity to experience a teacher like Mr. Foyle. Those of us that did will carry his influence, in our hearts, the rest of our lives. My condolences go out to the entire Foyle family. Thanks for sharing him with us.

I moved from a small catholic school in NY to Kiva when I was in the 6th grade. Mr. Foyle must have sensed how overwhelmed I was, and his kindness and sense of making me feel I was special was something I will never forget. I thought about him often and when I was teaching I used his memory to never forget an "average" student, because there is no such thing! He was an amazing teacher. Lisa Sanboeuf

I have such fond memories of Mr. Foyle's 6th grade class in 83-84. I never saw another teacher who could skip a piece of chalk across a daydreaming student's desk from across the room! His love for his work and the kids was so clear. What a treat to see the photos of him throughout his life. To his family and friends, I am sorry for your loss.

It seems from everyone's comment that I was not the only student affected by Mr. Foyle. Both my older and younger brothers an I were lucky enough to be taught so many classroom as well as life lessons by such a caring and influential man. Anyone from my 6th grade class might never forget him dousing my desk in Aqua Velva after shave on a regular basis. I will never forget his gentle pushing to be more than you thought you could be. Thank you for all you did for so many Mr. Foyle! My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this tough time.

Mr. Foyle was my 7th grade teacher at Kiva. I remember him with fondness and respect. As a matter of fact, he insisted that I would not get an A if I could not write neatly, never one of my strengths. So, I did. He made each of us better each day. I knew he truly cared about our learning and each of us as people. A few years back he came to an 8th grade Kiva reunion we had, it seemed as if we were all back in his class. A great teacher lasts forever in the hearts of students.Mr. Foyle holds a high place in my heart. Now, I am a full time college professor,I owe a great deal to Mr. Foyle- he definately inspired me to become all that I can be. Thank you,Mr. Foyle for all you have done and God Bless.

I had Mr. Foyle in 1979 as my 6th grade english teacher. He had this amazing balance of being tough while also so caring and gentle. There are vocabulary words for which i still know dictionary definitions by heart because of him - ominous, candor...He wanted to make a difference in students lives no matter what their academic interest. He succeeded every day.

To Mr. Foyle's family, please accept my sympathy for your loss. Mr. Foyle was my favorite teacher at Kiva Elementary School in the late 1960s. I was envious of the kids who had him for their homeroom teacher because I only had him for one subject a day when we switched classes. I attended Kiva's 50-year reunion in 2007. It had been over 35 years since I had seen him, but I easily recognized Mr. Foyle. I introduced myself and was amazed that he remembered me. He was a wonderful teacher!

Mr. Foyle was a favorite teacher of both me and my sister Tammy at Kiva, as well as him being a friend I kept in contact with throughout my high school and college years. A highlight for me in 2008 was getting to visit with him and former classmates at a mini-Kiva reunion in Paradise Valley.

Mr. Foyle taught my class in 6th grade. He was simply amazing. I remember if you got in trouble he would draw your face in chalk on the board and punch it...always with a smile on his face. He was a great teacher and great person. I will always remember him fondly. God bless him and his family.

What a great man and teacher. He was my teacher at Kiva Elementary over 45 years ago. He was the type of teacher who you respected and loved, and wanted to be a better person because of his example. My Mother and Father also always had so many nice things to say, being they were neighbors for many years. My girlfriends and myself were lucky enough to be invited to a mini reunion with Mr. Foyle about three years ago, and told him how much we appreciated him in our lives. God Bless Mr. Foyle and his family. Love Becky (Sydnor) Richards

Mr. Foyle was my fifth grade teacher at Kiva back in the mid-1960s. He was special to me for many reasons - my first male teacher, and he liked to throw an eraser at kids that were misbehaving (not me, of course). And he was the first to call me 'Ron" instead of "Ronny" which is what I went by before then. I insisted I be called "Ron" from that point on because of him.
I will alway look back on that year very fondly.

Mr. Foyle was my 6th Grade English teacher 35 years ago and he saw something in me that others didn't during a difficult period of my life.
