Obituary

Charles Luckey, 84, of Old Fort, NC entered into eternal rest on November 5, 2009 at Charles George VA Medical Center. A native and life long resident of Old Fort, NC, he was the son of the late Curlee Luckey. In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his son, C.L. Luckey; two brothers, Harry and Sam; one sister, Jeanann; and one step-son, Jermane. Charles Luckey, 84, of Old Fort, NC entered into eternal rest on November 5, 2009 at Charles George VA Medical Center.

A native and life long resident of Old Fort, NC, he was the son of the late Curlee Luckey. In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his son, C.L. Luckey; two brothers, Harry and Sam; one sister, Jeanann; and one step-son, Jermane.

Charles attended school at Old Fort Stepp School and attended Baltimore, Maryland School of building Traders, Inc. where he graduated May 30, 1951.

Charles worked as a brick mason until retirement. After retirement, he worked at Columbia Carolina Forestry Products in Old Fort until he became ill at age 82. During his career, Charles was in demand as a brick mason in New York, Washington DC, Maryland and various cities in North Carolina.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille Lytle Luckey of the home; devoted sister, Minnie Schoon of Old Fort; two daughters, Vivian Freeman of Hawaii and Minnie Sullivan of Asheville; two sons, Ken Luckey of Old Fort and Gary Luckey and wife, Yolanda of Asheville; five grandchildren, Craig and wife, Tiffany of Marion, Vanessa and husband, Alex of Charlotte, Sonya and husband, Mark of Hawaii, Danyual and husband, Jeff of Asheville and Dillard and wife, Jamie; three step-grandchildren, Kadeya, Natalie and Tangy; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles served as a decorated Sergeant in the US Army during WWII. Decorations and Citations include: American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.

Charles loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to stay active working in the yard and keeping busy around home.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Catawba View Baptist Church with Rev. Otis Ware and Rev. Ron Sullivan officiating. Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. The family will be receiving friends at the home.
