Obituary

Charles Whitfield Reeves, 83, long-time resident of Bowie, MD died peacefully at home on May 24, 2014 surrounded by family. He was pre-deceased by his father, James Jesse Reeves, his mother, Lillie Elizabeth Waldron Reeves, and his brother, James Reeves, Jr. He is survived by his wife Grace Bennett Reeves, his daughters, Elizabeth Clayton, Anne Edgin, and Carolyn Hammett, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Charles Whitfield Reeves, 83, long-time resident of Bowie, MD died peacefully at home on May 24, 2014 surrounded by family. He was pre-deceased by his father, James Jesse Reeves, his mother, Lillie Elizabeth Waldron Reeves, and his brother, James Reeves, Jr. He is survived by his wife Grace Bennett Reeves, his daughters, Elizabeth Clayton, Anne Edgin, and Carolyn Hammett, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was born in Chatham, Virginia, August 21, 1930. Charles served with the United States Army during the Korean War teaching cartography and photogrammetry at Fort Belvoir. After military service, he enjoyed a long career with Naval Intelligence where he was involved in critical issues facing the United States during the tumultuous cold war.
He was an avid fisherman, amateur naturalist, patent holder, quintessential Mr. Fix-it, generous friend, and loving, gentle father and husband but his greatest passion was studying and teaching the Bible. Throughout a lifetime of church service, he touched the lives of many. He was a dedicated member of Gideon's International, speaking for local groups and handing out 100's of Bibles.
Family will receive friends Saturday, May 31 from 10 am to 12 pm, Funeral Service will be held at 12 pm, at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Rd. Bowie, MD 20715, Interment will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
