Charles A. Reynolds, age 49, of Ann Arbor died October 2, 2011 at his home. Born in San Francisco in 1962, Charles is survived by his father, Lloyd Reynolds of Stockton, California, his brother, Jonathan, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and his sister, Katherine, of Santa Clara, California. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maryviola. Charles was a devoted father, with Anita Sherman Moran, to Alexander, Brenna, Jacob, and Liam (who preceded his father in death). On Leap Day 2008, Charles married Rebecca Price.
Charles studied organ performance at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, graduating in 1984, and continued his studies at the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University from which he obtained a Master's in Music. Charles also earned a Master's in Library Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He worked for eighteen years at the University of Michigan Music Library, the last nine as head of the library. He also taught in the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. His "church gig" had him playing organ and piano at churches in and around Ann Arbor. Over the years he graced the parishioners at the Lord of Light Lutheran Campus Ministry, Northside Presbyterian/St. Aidans Episcopal Church, Westside Methodist Church, and Holy Faith Church in Saline with his music from Bach preludes, fugues and toccatas to spirituals and contemporary song. At home, he instilled a love of music in his children and favored listeners with his jazz piano improvisations. When not involved in musical pursuits, Charles was an avid kayaker, cyclist, hiker, camper, and wanderer of the woods. To honor his life, Charles and his family would ask that you make donations to the University of Michigan Nichols Arboretum, the University of Michigan Brain Tumor Research Fund, or your favorite environmental organization. Charles' funeral will be 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Holy Faith Church, 6299 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd., Saline, MI. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until time of service.
