Charles McKinley (Charlie) Turner, Sr., 93,of Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Stuart and formerly of Bassett, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on September 28, 1917 to John William and Sarah Arnold Turner. Prior to retirement he was a self-employed sawmiller, bulldozer operator and merchant. He was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church where he was a deacon, former trustee and member of the choir. He was also a member of the Sanville Ruritan Club. Charles McKinley (Charlie) Turner, Sr., 93,of Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Stuart and formerly of Bassett, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on September 28, 1917 to John William and Sarah Arnold Turner. Prior to retirement he was a self-employed sawmiller, bulldozer operator and merchant. He was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church where he was a deacon, former trustee and member of the choir. He was also a member of the Sanville Ruritan Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Koger Turner; a daughter, Janet Sue Whitlow; two sisters Mary Lou Turner and Elsie Turner Joyce; eight half-sisters and five half-brothers.

He is survived by one daughter, Carol T. Adams and husband, Troy of Bassett; two sons, Ronald Turner and wife, Vicki of Conway, SC; Charles McKinley Turner, Jr. and wife Pat of Bassett; seven grandchildren, Stacy Whitlow, Jim Turner, Paige Whitlow, Tanya Verlik, Jason Turner, Daniel Turner and James Turner; three great-grandchildren, McKinley Verlik, Alexandra Turner and Jacob Turner.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Blackberry Baptist Church with Dr. G. H. Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the church and other times at the home of Carol and Troy Adams, 72 Boxwood Lane, Bassett.

Arrangements are by Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett.
