Obituary

Mr. Ray passed away Wednesday May 2, 2012. Visita-tion will be Sunday May 6 from 2 to 4 PM in Resthaven Funeral Home. Graveside services will be in Woodrow at Peaceful Gardens on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:00 am, with Brother Ross Spencer officiating under the direction of Resthaven funeral home. Mr. Ray was born October 5th, 1922 to the late Charlie Franklin Ray and Sally Ray in Gatesville, Texas. Char-lie was a long-time resident of Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Ray was born October 5th, 1922 to the late Charlie Franklin Ray and Sally Ray in Gatesville, Texas. Char-lie was a long-time resident of Lubbock, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from Reese Air Force Base after 25 years as a civil service employee. Charlie loved and enjoyed his family and home. He was an avid animal lover. Charlie married Montez Akard on January 7th, 1955 in Clovis, New Mexico. They had over 57 happy years together.

Survivors include his wife, Montez Ray, a step-son, Ric Akard, and his wife, Rebecca Akard, of Lubbock, one grandson, Chass Akard, and his wife Marci Akard of Lubbock, three great grandchildren, Christian Akard, Sean Akard, and Lauren Akard. Those preceeding him in death were six brothers and two sisters. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

The family suggests memorials to the animal shelter or their favorite charities. Mr. Ray was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
