Charlotte Blunt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2017.

Charlotte Pauline "Peggy" Blunt (Shelhammer), of Glendale, AZ, went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2017. Many knew her as "Purple Peggy"; she was 100 years old. Peggy was born in Horton, KS, on November 21, 1916, and was preceded in death by her husband James Blunt, who was the love of her life. They were married for over 63 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents Charles and Pearl (Mast) Shelhammer. Peggy was a homemaker for many years, but did work in the United States Navy Shipyard at Bremerton, WA, during WWII. Over her long, blessed life she touched so many lives with her sweet smile, loving heart, greeting cards, sweet potatoes and her love for the Lord. She will be missed by her family, friends, neighbors at Glencroft, her Southwest Church family and the many lives she touched through her many years. She loved her family with all her heart. She is survived by her sons Bill (Donna) Blunt, Skip Blunt, Jack (Kathi) Polchow; daughters Cheryl (Tom) Duffy and Toni Christensen along with 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at her beloved Southwest Church of Christ 8720 W. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85037 on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm. A Celebration of life will take place on November 25, 2017 at Glencroft. In lieu of flowers, Peggy requested donations be sent to her church, Southwest Church of Christ or Hospice of the Valley.

We are blessed to have known Peggy. She was a kind and gentle woman. She was a faithful Christian and loved God's people. Yes, she loved the color purple! We remembered her with great fondness.

My husband and I were blessed to meet Miss "Purple" Peggy over 25 years ago at Southwest Church of Christ. Miss Peggy was one of the sweetest and most sincere ladies we have ever had the privilege of meeting and to have in our lives. She was a true example of a "Woman of God". She was a great example, not only to the younger women coming up, but to some of us older women as well. She always had a smile on her face, no matter what, even in the weeks when she was hospitalized and we went to visit with her, she still had that beautiful smile of hers and her sweet little laugh!! Miss Peggy had the kind of smile that made her eyes light up, and that was a true smile!!! Miss Peggy stole the hearts of MANY, and that includes my parents, Mr. Moses and Mrs. Barbara Carter of New York. They met each other several years ago and she stole their hearts. In fact, her last Sunday at church, she asked me about them and told me to tell them hello. And yes, they always asked about "Purple Peggy"!!! Miss Peggy, thank you for your love and sweet beautiful spirit. Thank you for showing so many of us what it means to be a true Christian and to love others unconditionally. We will miss you so very much, but we are happy for you because we know you are with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We love you Miss Peggy!!! Gus & Michelle Finklea

I met Purple Peggy at her surprise 100th birthday party while taking photographs for the family. I will never forget seeing the love that shone around her that day. Purple Peggy was dressed all in purple and she shared her love for her family and friends with a kiss or hug or pat on the hands. What a treasure the Lord has taken to be in his garden of rest.

God Bless You Purple Peggy!

And may God bless your family and friends here on earth, until we meet again.

While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our heavenly Father return your dear one to you. Romans 12:15
