Charlotte Rickey Callis, 73, of Monroe, went to HEAVEN Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Howard Carroll Callis, Jr.
Born June 3, 1944 in Pulaski, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Boyd Dickerson Rickey and Sally Elizabeth Jackson Rickey. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bascome Jackson and Ray Rickey.
Charlotte was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, a retired preschool teacher, who loved to cook. She always made sure nobody went hungry.
She is survived by her children, Charlene C. Spruill and husband Jim, Howard C. Callis, lll and wife Pearl, Barry Callis and wife Betty; siblings, Cecil Collins, Bernice Neikirk, Barbara Ann Harpe and husband Jim, Boyd D. Rickey, Jr. and wife Beverly, Shirley Warf and husband Bobby; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon - 1:45 p.m., Saturday July 29, 2017 at New Prospect Baptist Church where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm officiated by by Pastors Douglas Turner and Randall Lawrence. Interment will follow in Allwood Cemetery.
The family would like to offer thanks to the very caring team at New Century Hospice for the care they gave to their mother and a special thanks to Tammy and Amy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to New Century Hospice, 6000 Boonesboro Rd. Lynchburg VA. 24503.
