Our loving mother, a doting grandmother, and an exceptional friend, Charlotte "Annette" Johnston, 57, went to be with her God on Wednesday, June 13, 2013. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8:30pm Tuesday, June 18, at Johnson's funeral home.
Annette was born and raised in San Angelo and worked as a registered nurse. In her childhood she spent a few years in Germany, which influenced her love of travel and moved her to encourage others to see the world and experience different cultures. She always enjoyed the simple things in life and appreciated natural beauty in the world. Her morale and values were superior and greatly inspired others. She was loath to judge others and strived to treat all persons equally. Annette was honest and always stood up for what she believed. Also, people have always marveled at her stamina. She was happy being outdoors whether it was taking a walk or being productive in the yard, or simply just sitting. Annette had an affinity for nature, animals, and children and treasured family above all. Her passion was spending time with her children and her grandchildren.
Later in life and married with four children, Annette decided to further her eighth grade education level. With perseverance, she managed to obtain a GED, attended college with honorable grades throughout, and graduated from Angelo State University with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing, all while raising her family. She always stressed the importance of an education to her children and encouraged them to obtain their education first and foremost. Annette thoroughly enjoyed learning. She constantly read, researched, and anticipated learning experiences.
Annette was an attentive and compassionate nurse. It is believed that Annette's exceptional care as a nurse came full circle in the phenomenal care she received from doctors and nurses in the last few days of her life. Her children are thankful to have had such a gentle soul care for them as well in times of need in their life.Annette also had a giving nature, although preferred not to make known her many contributions to charities. She volunteered for Meals for the Elderly and spontaneously gave donations when she overheard of people or places in need; Annettealways gave to others selflessly. She was a very special person that touched the lives of many.
In life, Annette didn't ever ask for much. She loved so deeply and wanted everyone else to do the same.An idealist, she always imagined a world with no suffering, greed, or possessions. She desperately wanted happiness and peace for all.
"A mother holds her children's hands for just a little while, but she holds their hearts forever"-- Author unknown.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that contributions be made to charity of choice.
Annette is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Renee Pape, VerbaShereePape, both of San Angelo. Robin Lee Pape and husband Seunghwan Lee of Seoul, South Korea. Three grandchildren, Roman and Phoenix of San Angelo and PriscillaYeonjae of Seoul, South Korea. Sister Donna Bishop, brother Gary Johnston, both of San Angelo. Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Jack Pape, parents Charles Zonval Johnston and Odessa Mae Jackson, sister Opal Johnston, andbrother Bradley McCain.
