News Obituary
Charlotte Ann Jones passed away peacefully on November 14, 2011 in Palm Coast Florida one week after her 91st birthday.
Born in Joplin, Missouri November 7, 1920, daughter of Lois Walker Ground and John Wesley Ground, sister to John Wesley Ground Jr., she attended the University of Missouri and was a proud sister of Kappa Kappa Gama sorority. In the middle of World War Two, she married James Logan Jones before he left for the Pacific in 1942 where he served in the US Marine Corps. After the war, she moved to Paris France in 1947 with her husband and her first son, James Logan Jones Jr. Another son, John Vernon Jones and a daughter Diane Jones soon followed.
From a Midwest small town, she took the French capital by storm and charmed her way into the hearts of her French neighbors and colleagues, from the local marché to the antique dealers of the Paris Flea Market, mastering the French language while never losing her Midwestern twang. Charlotte and her family spent 16 years in Paris, France and 9 years in Brussels, Belgium. After retirement in 1972, Charlotte and Jim moved to Ft Lauderdale, Florida. Her beloved husband died in 1986. She moved up to Alexandria, VA in 1999 to be near her oldest son, James Jr., spouse Diane and their family. In 2008 she moved to Palm Coast Florida to spend her final years near her second son, John and his wife, Wilhelmina.
She will be remembered for her "joie de vivre", her superb skills as a hostess and sense of style and her uncanny ability to use every opportunity to turn strangers into friends. She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses (Diane Jones, Wilhelmina Jones and Roma Guy), 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Burial Services at Arlington National Cemetery are scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2012 at 1:00 pm.

Your death, Charlotte Ann, is the final act in the passing of an entire generation for me. You all were a classy, very special and exceptional lot, and the honor fell to you Charlotte of becoming their ambassador and keeping their lives remembered. May we now do the same for you. The Lang Rogers' family was saddened to hear of your mother's passing. We lost our mother, Ruth,on October 2. She was 91 as well. No matter how much we realize what a wonderful, long life they've had, there's something about losing them that cuts deep in the heart. Your mother was delightful and I always enjoyed hearing her stories about my father in their youth. Hoping our parents are having a big party together in the hereafter. Know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. Shary (Rogers) Lee

My condolences to "C's" family on her death. I am the librarian at the Flagler Beach Library and have to say it was a pleasure to serve your Mom. She was always pleasant, upbeat and never any trouble! A great lady indeed!
