Chester Campbell Obituary

Chester Samuel Campbell, who was also called “Papa” by his granddaughters, went to heaven, Monday, August 6.  He was born January 24, 1920 to Robert and Ethel Campbell.  He graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School in 1940.  He later joined the U.S. Army on November 6, 1941 and was captured on February 14, 1943 and was a POW for 2 years and 2 two months in Germany, Italy, and Poland.  He was employed at USS until his retirement.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Louise Rucker Campbell.  He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Underwood Campbell; his daughters, Brenda Sizemore (Bruce), Lynne Johnson (Terry).  He is also survived by Marilyn’s daughters, Laura Shannon (Keith), Terri Rhodes (Jeff), and Jan Doddridge his grandchildren, Brittany and Heidi Sizemore, Brandy and Ashton Johnson, Amy Nelson, Kristen and Chelsea Cornelius, Natalie and Anthony Siracusa; and one great grandson, Riley Williams; brother, Harry E. “Bud” Campbell (Noreen) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was a wonderful Daddy and Papa.  After his retirement, he helped to raise his granddaughters.  He played an active role in their lives from Kindergarten thru the day they graduated high school and college.  Daddy/Papa we miss you so much and love you so, and know that you are in a much better place than we are.  Visitation will be Wednesday, August 8, beginning at 12:00 noon and service beginning at 1:00 pm at Elmwood Chapel.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson’s Research Foundation are appreciated.

Netagene Kirkpatrick

Mother's first cousin ... they even looked almost like twins, what with their glow-in-the-dark white hair and sparkling blue eyes! Such a sweet and GENTLE man. I'm sure the angels rejoiced to sing him "home" to them, even while we waved goodbye to him on this short. Love to Marilyn and all the families on both sides. God be with you.
