Born in rural Kansas to Chester and Anna Barr as the 3rd of 4 deceased brothers and one remaining brother on the original homestead. It's with heavy heart he left his wife Elaine, dependent son Rick as their care provision, and welfare were his chief concern. His daughter Diane Barr Gherman resides in Edmonds.
Fleeing asthma he traveled with friends to Washington where he was soon drafted. He was a humble veteran of WWII and the Battle of Normandy (where he visited in 2005 with his daughter). Upon return from the service attended telegraph school and spent 35 years working for the now Burlington Northern/Santa Fe.
He was privileged to retire young and faithfully serve as Gods steward in Pioneer Clubs, teaching Sunday school and serving as a Deacon and in other church positions. During this time, much to his family's surprise, he unveiled talent and took up and perfect oil painting.
In later years he had a passion for genealogy and the history of his family heritage. He recorded history back to early European settlements and even searched DNA databases for familial matches. Putting feet to this, his wife and son traversed the United States meeting and befriending new relatives and sharing histories. Of course, of great pleasure to his wife was all the national parks they would visit in-route to Kansas, Byron & Marlene, (Elaine's brother) relatives, and of course, various cemeteries.
Private Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery 4504 Broadway Everett WA 98203.
Arrangements under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Home, Everett, Washington.
