Chester E. Falk Jr., age 79 of Austin, passed on to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2012, after a long struggle with lung disease.
He was preceded in death by his wife Uvah, parents Irene and Chester E. Falk Sr. and sister Ann Hammond of Waco, Texas.
Chester was born in Austin on July 24, 1932, graduated from Austin High School and attended the University of Texas. Chester was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Austin. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, a love for which he shared with his sons and close friends.
Chester was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1952 to 1954, after which he returned to Austin and began a 33-year career with what is now Austin Energy. Chester rose through the ranks, ultimately being named Superintendent of Transmission and Distribution for all underground services in 1973. He was devoted to his work for the City of Austin and the over 400 employees that worked with him by the time of his retirement in 1987.
Chester married his lifetime love, Uvah Jean Rogers, in 1952. His unconditional love for his family was never more evident than in the care he provided for both his mother and wife during their long illnesses preceding their deaths. Chester was unfailing in his support for our family-strong and independent-you could always count on him to be there for help when needed.
The family appreciates the able assistance and attention given to Chester during his extended illness by Dr. Mark Clark, Hospice Austin and their nurse, Shelley Baker. We are especially thankful to his caregivers, Aurora and Eddie Amaro.
Chester is survived by sons Michael and wife Eledith, Kenneth and wife Carrie, grandchildren Sonia Bumpus and husband Jeremy, Ashley Falk, Alyson Falk, Katherine Falk, Cooper Falk and great-grandsons Donovan, Tristan, and Axle Bumpus, and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his sister, Clemmie Hext, who provided immeasurable love and encouragement during his illness.
Visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. Graveside services will be Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Dr.
