Christian Bryant Alford "Chris" was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on December 23, 1992. He passed on March 29, 2014, with his family by his side, after a courageous five year battle with cancer. Chris had a strong, quiet demeanor in the face of his long term illness, fighting his battle head on, with never a complaint.
Chris was a 2012 graduate of Lawton Chiles High School where he was selected an All Big Bend wrestler for Chiles as a sophomore. The Chiles High School wrestling program also dedicated a spirit award in his name.
The "Pooka Man", as he was known by many, was a true free spirit. He left an indelible mark on his family, friends and community. His affinity for Florida State sports, traveling near and far to music festivals, and his backyard oasis was eclipsed only by his love for his family and friends. He taught each of us to live and love well. All who had the opportunity to know him are forever changed by his spirit, gentleness and determination.
Chris is survived by his parents, Bill and Connie Alford, four brothers, Clay Darley (Casey) of Thomasville, GA, Jason Darley (Adrienne) of Mobile, AL, Jep Darley and Will Alford of Tallahassee, girlfriend Olivia Miller, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends near and far.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Bradfordville First Baptist Church. Visitation from noon until 2 p.m. Service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Make a Wish Foundation or Big Bend Hospice in Chris' memory.

I still can see Chris as he was in kindergarten --so sweet with his short blonde hair and working so hard on his assignments. This is what is meant by the phrase, Life isn't fair. My sympathies to the entire wonderful Alford family.

From the bottom of our heart, we send our sincere sympathy to your entire family. As a part of the Chiles High school wrestling family with both Will and Chris, we know the heart and passion Chris held in his commitment to be the best wrestler possible. To see his desire and approach to get back on the mat after his initial treatments was so inspirational and a true testament to the human spirit. What an example and lesson he thought us all.
Our thought and prayers go out to the family and we hope you may find some peace and comfort through God's Love!
