Mercer, Christine I., 75, of Valrico passed away December 11, 2012 surrounded by many members of a devoted family whose lives she had touched with her kindness, generosity and prayers. Born in Zepherhills, raised in Springhead and a lifelong resident of the Tampa Bay area, Mrs. Mercer's faith in God was the center point of a life committed to serving the needs of her family and others. From starting children's outreach programs at church to caring for the needs of the elderly and her family, Mrs. Mercer's love for Christ was reflected in every aspect of her walk through life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Bessie Mae Brooks; along with her precious grandson, Bret who she now walks hand-in-hand with through heaven. Survivors include her husband of 60 years Loren; sons, Eddie (Darlene), Teddy and Ricky (Charlynn); grandchildren, Lindy, Crystal, Kaley, Betsy, Jeffery, Christopher; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Braden, Kynslee, Brooke, Rhett; four brothers and nine sisters. Mrs. Mercer will long be remembered for her generosity and the spiritual impact she had on all who met her. Her last bible entry was Mt 11:28 "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest". Special thanks to Sylvia Gier and Melech Hospice House of Temple Terrace for taking such wonderful care of mom in her final days. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Bell Shoals Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10a.m. until service time at the church.
