Claire was born in Hawley, TX and was raised in Abilene, TX for 22yrs, graduating from Harden Simmons University. She moved to California with her first husband, Wm. D. Armstrong and there she taught primary grades for 32 years. Later she married Glen H. Shelley. They were married 13 years and Glen's children, Glenda Frontuto & Thomas Shelley who live in Southern California, loved her.
Claire was dedicated, energetic and creative in everything. Her many activities were gardening, church work, art, caring for each friend and family member who were blessed by her attention, encouragement and smiles. She spoke sparingly, laughing often and loved genuinely at all times. Her relationships were always true, especially to Jesus Christ, family and new friends she made everywhere she went. Her appreciation of beauty, nature and respect for others influenced her every thought and action.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Victor E. & Betty M. Hodges; parents, Marvin A. & Nellie E. Miller; brothers, Marvin H. & Robert C. Miller and sister, Katherine Culpepper.
Claire is survived by her children, Jerry D. (Virginia) Armstrong of Sonora, CA, Claire Lynnette (Charles) Stice of Merced, CA and Larry D. (Carol) Armstrong of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Shelley E. Armstrong, Jeffery & Bryan Stice, Patricia Stice Lash, Julia K. Thompson and Sara & Jessica Wyrick; and great grandchildren, Stephanie, Melanie & Christopher Bogard and Serena & Jesse Thompson.
