An icon of north Spokane, our dad, Claire Story, 87, passed away at Hospice House of North Idaho on May 7, 2013. To know Dad was to know a man of passion for life and adventure. He was a husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend. Known all over Spokane, he was a teacher (at Emerson, Balboa, and Logan), the owner of Story's Swim School (where a generation of kids learned to swim), a realtor, and a Boy Scout executive. Dad loved fishing (almost as much as talking about it later), woodworking, outdoors, travel and golf. Dad leaves behind his daughter Sheryl (Dana) Caldart, and his son Don (Teri) Story and his five grandkids -- Catlyn Caldart and James, Elsie, Annie and Jonathan Story, and wife Sue Fall-Story.

About 44 years ago, Claire taught our daughter to swim. She was 5 and after 5 days swam the length of his pool. SHE eventually was a competitive swimmer. I still see him on the first day litterly throwing her into the deep end. I was Panic stricken, she came up laughing and asking for more. He was a wonder and to this day, remembered his name. So very sorry for your loss of a really COOL man!

My deepest sympathies to all of Cousin Claire's family. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen seen Claire in a few years, but I know he will be missed by all who knew him. He was a very nice and sincere person.

We have many wonderful memories of Mr. Story and his pool. Our children, Shaun and Michele Kelly, took swimming lessons from this most wonderful teacher and neighbor. Claire was always so positive and pleasant. Our sincere sympathy to all the family.

Deepest sympathies to the Story family, which was always such a part of our lives growing up. Claire was my first swimming instructor, and for a time he led the bell choir at church. Great memories. Peace and love to your family.
