Clara "Mimi" Elizabeth Potts Winters, 95, of Marion and Forest City, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the home of Carolyn and Malcolm Tucker, in Dysartsville, NC, where she had resided for the last 6 years, with many family members by her side.
Mrs. Winters was born in Banner Elk, NC on March 13, 1922, to the late Marvin Dewitt Potts and Rosa Belle Fox Potts.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Marion. Mrs. Winters and her husband owned and operated the Winters Motel and Winters Real Estate in Woodlawn. She managed the motel and assisted her husband with his office duties.
She was a hard worker and a very independent lady who enjoyed crocheting, golfing, bowling and cooking for family and friends.
As a loving mother and grandmother, all were welcomed to her home no matter how busy she was with her other duties. She taught the family how to work hard and play hard. In her early working years, in the 1940's, she worked in an airplane factory in California. While in California, she and her husband loved to go to the USO to dance and socialize with other young couples. They were even known to win a few dance contests. Her love of dancing continued throughout her life.
In post- retirement she was the biscuit maker for McDonald's in Forest City, owned by Dave Hunt, a job that she "absolutely loved".
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Homer A. Winters, Sr.; a son, Homer A. Winters, Jr.; and her eight brothers.
Surviving Mrs. Winters are her daughters, Carolyn (Malcolm) Tucker, of Dysartsville and Sandra Gail (Baxter Lynn) Young, of Marion; grandchildren Dewey, Anthony and Jonathon Skidmore, Andrea Skidmore (Jay) Poole, Amy Young (Jon) Dula, Laura Young (Mike) Wilson, Aaron (Tamara) Young, Joel (Jenny) Young, Charles (Sally) Young, Andrew (Rebekah) Winters, Carrie Beth Winters (Chuck) Hathcock and her beloved Elena Moore; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 2230 Airport Rd., Marion, with First Counselor to the Bishop, Robert Puett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
Flowers are welcome, and memorials may be made to: Hospice of Rutherford County, 374 Hudlow Rd., Forest City, NC 28043.
Special thanks are extended to the Hospice of Rutherford County caregivers who lovingly cared for Mimi and her family.
