Clara Morrison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2016.

Mrs. Clara Louise (Reed) Morrison was born on May 31, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a homemaker who devoted her life to God, her family, volunteering, and care-taking. She was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She met her first husband, Darrel E. Reed, Sr. before World War II, and they wrote each other hundreds of letters while he was overseas with the Army. When he returned, they married on September 14, 1946. They had two sons, Darrel E. Reed, Jr. and Cameron Reed. She volunteered her time to the Lutheran Braille Society for over 40 years, the altar guilds at both Chapel of the Cross and Zion Lutheran. Her specialty was care-taking: she was the bookkeeper for Darrel Sr.'s car business; she visited her parents at the nursing home twice daily for 20 years; picked up her granddaughters from school; and made comfort food that was out of this world amazing--along with treats for every holiday. Darrel Sr. passed away on July 29th, 1999 and she married her second husband, John Morrison, on August 31, 2003. She and John made the most of their short time together by travelling and attending organ concerts, orchestras, and symphonies. She lost her eldest son, Darrel Jr., to cancer in November 2004. John cared for her during this difficult time, as well as after she was diagnosed with dementia, until he passed away in March 2012. She spent her final years being cared for by her son, Cameron, and granddaughters Jenny and Jackie, and was eventually moved into a nursing home. She was able to get to know her great-granddaughter, Charlotte, for the last two years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Darrel E. Reed; son, Darrel E. Reed Jr.; second husband, John Morrison; parents, Burton E. Haskins Sr. and Clara M. Haskins; brother, Burton E. Haskins Jr. and sister in-law Mildred Haskins.
Survivors include her son, Cameron Reed of Overland Park; his daughters Jennifer of Overland Park, and Jackie Reed of Lenexa; daughter in-law, Sharon Reed of Houston, Texas; her daughters Lindsay Reed of Houston, and Courtney Reed of New York City; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Reed; as well as Kathleen Roberts, the mother of her granddaughters, Jennifer and Jackie; sister-in-law, Lorene Legg and husband Mel Legg; niece, Linda Haskins; nephew Phillip Haskins and wife Valerie Murray; nephew Burton E. Haskins III and wife, Katie Haskins; step-son Ron Morrison; and step-son Steve Morrison and wife Monica Morrison.
The visitation with be at 2:30p.m, followed by the funeral service at 3:00p.m. on Monday October 3, 2016 at Mt. Moriah Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home with the burial immediately following at Mt.
