Clare Patricia Condy Hickey, 84, of Dallas, Texas, died of natural causes on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in her home surrounded by family. Clare was born on December 26, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, to Helen Flynn and Arthur Condy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John Hickey. They met while working at New York Life and married 3 months after their first date. Clare is also survived by her children and lights of her life, son Brian Hickey and his wife Vanessa Ballesteros Hickey; daughter Marianne Hickey Davis and her husband Jere Davis and her 4 grandchildren Michael, Allison, Jake, & Danny Davis all of Plano, Texas. On her last day with her family she was able to tell them all how much she loved them and that she truly believed she had the greatest children and grandchildren in the world.
Clare is also survived by her Brother William Condy and sisters-in-law Eleanor Condy, Mary Lou Condy, Monette Hickey, and Mary Hickey. She is also survived by 34 nieces and nephews, their spouses and their children.
Clare is preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law Grace Condy Eckerle & Joe Eckerle; Helen Condy Bellmer & Buddy Bellmer; Joan Condy Baberadt & Buddy Baberadt; and brother Robert Condy; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Neil Hickey; Jimmy Hickey; and Andy & Barbara Hickey. She is also preceded in death by nephews Jamie Eckerle; and Billy Bellmer.
While family was always her priority and source of great joy, she had other interests, as well. Clare started her professional career as a Programmer at New York Life. Soon after marrying John, she realized working in the same office was not beneficial to their marriage. Clare became a home maker and mother, both of which she was great at. Clare's mother, Helen, lived with her and her family for many years in New Jersey. Later they moved to Texas. As Brian and Marianne got older she worked in retail at Lord & Taylor and then as the co-owner of the Legacy Antique Shop in Dallas, a job she truly loved… especially the shopping trips.
Clare loved to travel. Most often with family to places such as Italy, Spain, her beloved Ireland, but most of all the large extended family vacations to the beach.
Clare had it all; her everlasting faith in God, a loving family, style and grace. She was one class act! A role model to all she came in contact with. She touched many lives and made such a positive, lasting impact on all. She will be greatly missed.
The family will celebrate Clare's life with visiting hours and a funeral Mass.
