Clarence Allan Bostwick passed from this earth Thursday night August 3, 2017. Born March 6, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Clarence Amon Bostwick (an accountant) and Elfrieda Henrietta Bostwick. He grew up in Harvey, Illinois with his younger siblings James Arnold Bostwick and Clare Ann (Bostwick) Albiero and their dog "Tiny Tim".
Al or Allan, as he was known, earned his bachelors degree in Mathematics at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Shortly after graduating, he married Deborah Anna Griffin whom he met at Monmouth. His first job took them to St. Louis, Missouri where we was employed by McDonald Douglas Aircraft working in computer aeronautics. There, their first child, Barbara Ann was born. And, while in St. Louis going to night school, he earned his Masters in Business at Washington University. He then received an opportunity to move to Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 1961 to work for Union Carbide in their computer plant where they were building atomic bombs; (this was during th e Kennedy-Castro era). Here their second child was born, James Allan Bostwick. After only about 3 years in Oak Ridge (in 1964), he was lured to the unknown west, to Arizona, by G.E. (which later became Honeywell) to work in their computer division.
He was smitten with Arizona and quickly determined he was not taking his career and job anywhere else. Sadly after only a year and a half in Arizona, his wife Deborah passed away. During his period of grief, a friend at work offered to set him up on a blind date. Ruth Freida Schafrick, captured his heart and within about a year they were married. Ruth not only lovingly accepted Barbara and Jim into her heart and care but, they soon had a son, Steven Amon Bostwick.
Al, always a runner starting in his high school days, became extensively involved in the early formation of the Arizona Roadracers, a running club. He also completed 2 marathons. Additionally, he was an avid hiker. While in Oak Ridge, he relished exploring the picturesque Smokey Mountains. And, quickly became a voracious hiker of the Grand Canyon, where over the years he traversed every trail on the south side including all of the difficult "unmaintained" trails. Many of his trips down the canyon were with the companionship of his two sons, Jim and Steve, and even daughter, Barb, a few times.
Al was also an avid golfer with wife Ruth, who had worked with Karsten Solheim at GE and later in life she worked for Karsten at Ping in his exports department. Al's golfing was highlighted with 3 hole in ones.
Allan loved trains in any fashion. He loved to ride trains or travel just to see trains. He even had a designated train room crafted with a table for running the trains on a track course and display shelves and cabinets with his extensive collection of locomotives and various types of cars. In his later years he spent his days doing train puzzles. Some of his other interests included his stamp collecting, and working with the boys in the YMCA Indian Guides and Royal Rangers (boy scouting groups).
Allan also enjoyed giving to various Christian organizations. When Assembly of God, Tommy Barnett started his "Dream Center, Al was a participating giver. His recent favorite was "Samaritans Purse", a crisis and disaster response organization who's mission is to "follow the example of Christ by helping those in need and proclaiming the hope of the Gospel in their work".
Allan is survived by his wife, Ruth, his 3 children, Barbara Ann Davis (Gary), James Allan Bostwick (Daphne), Steven Amon Bostwick (Cyndie), and 4 grandchildren, William Bostwick (Hannah), Andrew Bostwick(Kristen), Elizabeth Shultz (Alex), and Melissa Simons and his sister Clare Ann Albiero.
.
Services will be Sunday August 13th with a 2:00 Viewing, 3:00 Service and 4:00 Burial at Green Acres Mortuary: 401 N. Hayden Rd. Any contributions in his memory may be made to "Samaritans Purse" (www.samaritanspurse.org).

To the Botswick Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
