Clarence Ackerlund Obituary

Clarence Wayne Ackerlund passed away peacefully in Everett Washington Aug 13, 2013. He was one of nine children, born Oct 20,1920 in Cle Elum, Washington. He graduated high school in 1938 and as a young man worked as a ranch-hand and in the coal mines of Cle Elum. Afterward, he moved to Seattle where he began his family. He worked for a short time in a candy factory before getting hired on as a riveter in the shipyards. He was inducted into the army in Feb 1944, where as a corporal, he was assigned as Ship Master, operating a tugboat in the Philippines campaign of Luzon. He earned the Philippine Liberation Medal with One Bronze Service Star, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was also a classified Marksman with the SS M1 Rifle. He received an Honorable Discharge in Feb of 1946. Then on March 6th 1946, he went to work for Western Van & Stg, an agent for Allied Van Lines. He worked there for 37 years, being recognized as Van Forman of the Month and twice as Allied Van Lines', Safety Driver of the Year, logging well over 2 Million Miles. After retiring as a Teamster in 1983, he moved to Melba ID. There he continued his love for horses and the outdoors, raising his own hay, along with hunting and fishing. At age 89 he moved to Everett WA to live at the Garden Court Retirement Home, so he could be close to his family. He leaves behind one sister Millie Matanich, four sons,Wayne Ackerlund, Larry Ackerlund, Jeff Ackerlund, Gene Ackerlund, and two daughters, Linda Sisson and Delores Overton, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday Aug 23rd 2013 in CleElum WA at the Cascade Funeral Home. Viewing at 11:30am, followed by funeral sevices at 1:30pm at Laurel Hills Cemetery . A reception will follow at the CleElum Eagles, 220 N Pennsylvania Ave.
