Clarence F. "Shorty" Campbell, 95 of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Saturday September 18, 2010. A native of Rutherford County, TN, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 15 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, TN. Shorty was a Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy where he served in the European Theater before sailing through the Panama Canal to the Philippines. A 1939 graduate of MTSU, he lettered four years in three sports, baseball, basketball and football. Clarence F. "Shorty" Campbell, 95 of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Saturday September 18, 2010. A native of Rutherford County, TN, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 15 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, TN. Shorty was a Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy where he served in the European Theater before sailing through the Panama Canal to the Philippines. A 1939 graduate of MTSU, he lettered four years in three sports, baseball, basketball and football. He was employed with U.S. Rubber Company as Director of Athletics and Community Activities and later became Supervisor of Employment. He was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Morgan Campbell and was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace, Jack and Ewing. Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Sue Solomon Campbell; daughter Marlene and her husband Ed Foster, Ooltewah; two grandchildren, Jenni (Tommy) Jones and Christopher (Charlotte) Foster; brother, Wayne Campbell, Athens, AL. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at National Cemetery with the Rev. David Graves officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family will receive friends on Tuesday before the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
