Clarence Vander Weele, age 86, of Sheboygan, died Thursday evening, April 18, 2013. Clarence was born September 23, 1926 in Sheboygan to Danker and Cora (Gabrielse) Vander Weele. He attended Sheboygan Christian School and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1944. During WW II Clarence served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS LST 893 and the USS Kittiwake ASR 13, (a Submarine Rescue Ship). He was honorably discharged in 1947, having achieved the rank of 2nd Class Quarter Master and was awarded the WW II Victory Medal. On May 27, 1950 Clarence and Harriet G. Clarence Vander Weele, age 86, of Sheboygan, died Thursday evening, April 18, 2013.
Clarence was born September 23, 1926 in Sheboygan to Danker and Cora (Gabrielse) Vander Weele. He attended Sheboygan Christian School and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1944.
During WW II Clarence served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS LST 893 and the USS Kittiwake ASR 13, (a Submarine Rescue Ship). He was honorably discharged in 1947, having achieved the rank of 2nd Class Quarter Master and was awarded the WW II Victory Medal.
On May 27, 1950 Clarence and Harriet G. Buteyn were united in marriage at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan.
For forty years Clarence was employed at the Kohler Co., retiring on March 31, 1989 as Stock Control Clerk.
He was a faithful, active, and generous member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee, the Sign Ministry, and as an instructor for Crossroad Bible Institute, (a ministry to inmates in every state). He also participated at church in the Friendship Club, the Prayer Breakfast, and the Golden Agers Club.
In addition to his wife, Harriet, he is survived by his three sons, Ken and Linda, Chicago, IL and their four children – Tyler (Cambridge, MA), Myles & Jennifer (San Francisco, CA), Morgan and Hilary (both in Chicago, IL). Ron and Julie, Chicago, IL and their two children – Emily (Washington, DC) and Will (Chicago, IL). Rick and Cheryl, Midland, MI and their three children – Eric (Brooklyn, NY), Meagan (Chicago, IL) and Caitlin (Cambridge, MA).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette and Gertie, and his brother, Harold.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church, 428 Geele Ave., Sheboygan, WI. 53083. Rev. Larry Meyer, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday morning at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Wildwood Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for Sheboygan Christian School.
Clarence's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Terrace Estates and Morningside nursing home for their diligence and care.
