Clarke Rudolph Newlin, 81, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on February 1, 2014.

Mr. Newlin was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 21, 1932 to the late Clarke Rudolph Newlin, Sr. and Martha Carolyn Storey Newlin.

Mr Newlin and his family moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1939. There he attended and graduated from Murphy High School. In high school, Mr Newlin was elected President of his graduating class and he was elected "Most Likely to Succeed".

Mr. Newlin began his college career at Spring Hill College, in Mobile, Alabama, and later transferred to Rice University, in Houston, Texas, where he graduated in 1954 with a Bachelors Degree in accounting.

Mr. Newlin met his first wife, Jean Thomas Newlin, in 1953, when they both attended a class in Marriage and Family Relationships at Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ridgecrest, North Carolina. They were married September 18, 1954.

After college, Mr Newlin went to work for the credit department of Foleys Department Store in Houston, Texas where he worked for many years. Mr Newlin later went to work for Associated Credit Bureaus Inc as Director of Automation, where he worked for 15 years, and where he headed the company's involvement in the development of online computer systems used throughout the country in the consumer credit reporting industry. During his time there, he was elected President of ACB Services, Inc, a subsidiary of Associated Credit Bureaus, Inc in 1972. He also served as President of the Houston chapter of the Data Processing Management Association. In 1985, Mr. Newlin was the Conference Chairman for the Data Processing Management Association's Annual International Computer Conference and Business Exposition held in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. He was a Certified Public Accountant, active member of the Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs, and was active in Rotary International as well as the Houston Chamber of Commerce. During his professional career he also worked as Director of Facilities Management Services for Bonner & Moore Computing Company, Controller for Treesweet Products Inc, Administrative Vice President for Warrior Energy Group Inc, President of Oxxo, Inc. Mr. Newlin and his wife, Jean, joined South Main Baptist Church, in Houston, Texas, in 1954. They attended there until 1960, when they joined Second Baptist Church, in Houston, Texas, where Mr Newlin was an active member until his death. At Second Baptist Church, Mr Newlin served as a deacon, volunteered to serve during the middle of the night in the prayer room for many years, and was active in Sunday School and church ministries where he and Jean developed many life-long friendships.

Throughout his life, Mr Newlin was an avid fisherman who spent countless hours over many years along the saltwater and freshwater shorelines throughout the Gulf Coast area. He was always happiest when he had a rod and reel or cast net in his hands. He was also an avid card player, spent many years as an active member in many bridge clubs and would never turn down an invitation to a good card game.

After the death of his first wife, Jean Thomas Newlin in 2009, Mr. Newlin moved to Parkway Place, an independent living facility in Houston, Texas. While living there, he continued to work as Controller for Arrow Mirror & Glass Inc, and in his spare time enjoyed playing bridge, board games, serving as the bingo caller and assisting with the regular vesper services for residents. While living at Parkway Place, Mr. Newlin met and married his wife, Joanne Campbell Newlin, on August 2, 2013.

In the later years of his life, Mr Newlin became a published author, and he wrote the book, "Aging With Class". He was a frequent speaker at various book signing events at retirement communities around the region near his home.
