Obituary

Claude LeClere Matthews, Jr. passed away on Saturday, the 21st of September 2013, in Houston, Texas, after a long and wonderful life. He was 96. He was born in Houston on the 23rd of February 1917 where he attended Central High School, and graduated from the University of Houston and The University of Texas Law School. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He worked at Exxon/Mobil for over 35 years as an attorney in Land Owner Relations. Claude LeClere Matthews, Jr. passed away on Saturday, the 21st of September 2013, in Houston, Texas, after a long and wonderful life. He was 96.

He was born in Houston on the 23rd of February 1917 where he attended Central High School, and graduated from the University of Houston and The University of Texas Law School. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He worked at Exxon/Mobil for over 35 years as an attorney in Land Owner Relations. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Bettie Anne Guenard Matthews. He is survived by his three children, Claudia Hanson and Thomas C. Matthews of Katy, Texas, and Theresa Riggs of Magnolia, Texas; their spouses, grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers, Gene Matthews of Longview, Texas, and William C. Matthews of Houston, Texas.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two o'clock until four o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 25th of September, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 26th of September, in the Memorial Mission Mausoleum Chapel at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer in Houston.

An interment and Rite of Committal is to immediately follow in the Stations of the Cross section of the cemetery.
