Claudette Marie Guymond, 76, of West Swanzey, NH, passed away December 1, 2017, surrounded in love by her family.
She was born to the late Catherine A. (Bonner) and Joseph A. Campagna, Sr. on December 17, 1940 in Keene, NH.
Claudette was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma at the young age of twenty-three. At the time (1963), this was an incurable cancer. She was given the opportunity to receive experimental treatment at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The treatment was demanding, aggressive and difficult but successful. She became one of the first people ever cured of the disease. Today's treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma is modeled after what Claudette and a handful of other selected patients were willing to endure for cancer research. Out of this small group of research participants, Claudette was the longest living survivor.
A kind, tender and loving lady, Claudette will be greatly missed by many, especially her daughter Michelle Randall and her husband Mark, her son Grant R. Guymond and his wife Kathy, five grandchildren; Ryan Truslow, Sean Truslow, Aaron Guymond, Ryan Guymond and Mikayla Randall; five great-grandchildren, her brother Joseph A. Campagna, Jr. and his wife Barbara, her niece Ashley St.Hilaire and her husband Jason, her nephew Adam Campagna, as well as numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Alfred J. Guymond, on November 25, 2014.
A funeral service and burial with her husband in the Mountain View Cemetery, Swanzey, will be private.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Guymond's memory to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, West Swanzey, NH 03446.
