CLAUDIA BLANCHE GALlHER On April 5, 2013, CLAUDIA BLANCHE GALIHER passed away in Bethesda, MD. She was a resident of Maplewood Park Place. A native Washingtonian, Claudia earned her Liberal Arts Degree from Trinity College, Washington, DC in 1938 with a major in Sociology, and was awarded a masters degree in public health from Yale Medical School in 1943. She was recognized worldwide as an expert in public health education. She began her work in 1945 with the Montgomery County, MD Tuberculosis Association. On April 5, 2013, CLAUDIA BLANCHE GALIHER passed away in Bethesda, MD. She was a resident of Maplewood Park Place. A native Washingtonian, Claudia earned her Liberal Arts Degree from Trinity College, Washington, DC in 1938 with a major in Sociology, and was awarded a masters degree in public health from Yale Medical School in 1943. She was recognized worldwide as an expert in public health education. She began her work in 1945 with the Montgomery County, MD Tuberculosis Association. In 1955, she became Executive Director of the newly combined Montgomery County Tuberculosis and Heart Association. From 1956 to 1958, at the invitation of the Ford Foundation, Claudia spent two years in India developing health education programs. In 1962, she joined the Peace Corps as a health education consultant in the medical program division. For many years, she was an instructor in public health administration at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, MD. She retired from federal government service as a senior executive with the Department of Health and Human services in 1978. She was an avid golfer and the first female member of Congressional Country Club, Bethesda, MD with golf privileges. She lived in Madeira Beach, FL until 2003. Claudia was the beloved aunt of Richard W. Galiher. Jr., Phyllis Wilcox, Patricia Wraga and Kathleen Ott. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April12, 2013 at 11 a.m.at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, 9525 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD. Interment will be private. Contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
