J. Clay Flanders -MACON - J. Clay Flanders, Sr., 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 2:00p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Towson officiating. Mr. Flanders was born May 25, 1925 in Wrightsville, GA to the late Pompii and Nettie Dugger Flanders. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Paul, Ephrim, William; his twin Ray, and his cherished son, John C. Flanders, Jr.

Clay graduated from ABAC College with honors and the University of Georgia with a degree in Agriculture in 1947. He taught vocational Education in Jesup, GA. He worked as the County Agent in Hazlehurst, Georgia and owned his own feed and supply in Sylvania, Georgia where his son was born. He served the public as State Farm Agent for thirty-five years, five years in Cordele and thirty years in Augusta, Georgia. Clay held a CLU designation from the American College of Life Underwriters. He was a 1962 recipient of the Institute of Insurance Marketing from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Clay was an active Member of Augusta Exchange Club, including a term as President. He was Chairman of the Livestock committee for several years and member of the Macon Exchange Club, Emeritus. He and his wife are members of Forest Hills United Methodist Church, Macon. Clay served as an active member of the North Georgia Conference when he resided in Augusta. He was passionate about the game of golf and his expert woodworking.

He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Sarah C. Flanders; four grandchildren and their spouses, Garin and Maggie Flanders of Macon, Jennifer Flanders Hill and Christopher Hill of Augusta, John Clay Flanders, III of Macon, and Anna Flanders of Macon, daughter-in-law, Donna W. Flanders of Macon; six great grandchildren, Clayton, Michael and Ben Hill, Dallas Flanders, Emily and Jonathan Flanders; brother, Frank Flanders and his wife Allene; sister-in-law, Martha Flanders. He also leaves an extremely large and loving extended family which includes his State Farm Family.
