Clayton M. Alger, 75, of East Pharsalia, passed away early Fri. morning, May 20, 2011, at his home. Born in Laurens in June of 1935, Clayton was the son of Russell and Ruth Calkins Alger. Over the years he had worked for Simmonds Precision, from which he retired after 30 years. He had also been employed by the FBC Bowling Center, and was formerly the Town of Pharsalia Highway Superintendent for 18 years. Most recently he had worked part time for the R&M Farm Equipment in Marathon. Clayton M. Alger, 75, of East Pharsalia, passed away early Fri. morning, May 20, 2011, at his home.
Born in Laurens in June of 1935, Clayton was the son of Russell and Ruth Calkins Alger. Over the years he had worked for Simmonds Precision, from which he retired after 30 years. He had also been employed by the FBC Bowling Center, and was formerly the Town of Pharsalia Highway Superintendent for 18 years. Clayton is survived by his wife, Janice Roe Alger of East Pharsalia; and by his children and their spouses: Pamela and Duane Beilstien of Greenville, PA, Steve and Shelly Alger of Norwich, and Lisa and Bill Burdick of West Sand Lake. Also surviving are his step-children, Joan Weber and husband Matthew of McAllen, TX, and Steven Crouch and wife Karen of Gloversville; his grandchildren: Brandon and Cayla Beilstien, Jason Morris, Josh Morris and wife Jennifer, Joey Alger and wife Sara, Stefanie Bennett and husband Josh, Jordan Alger and fiancee Natalie Zanot, and Emma and Nicholas Burdick; several great grandchildren; his sister, Betty Lou Lang, and several nieces and nephews. Clayton was predeceased by his sisters and brothers: Vera "Dottie" Dolan, Harriet, William, Gerald, Marshall, Russell, Vernon, Kenneth, Charles"Buddy", and Robert.
Graveside services for Clayton will be held at 1 p.m. on Thurs. from the J. D. Lewis Cemetery in Preston. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Earlville, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are with the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home.
