Obituary

Clifford Lewis Hulbert, 90, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 15, 2012, at A. O. Fox Memorial Hospital. He was born at home in Richfield Springs on April 21, 1922, the oldest son of Harry Lewis and Vida Pearl (Holbrook) Hulbert. Clifford attended Laurens Central School. He married Letha Mae Beers, daughter of Jesse and Anna (Pearsall) Beers, on March 24, 1940, in Franklin, NY. Clifford began his military service with Co. G of the Oneonta National Guard. Clifford Lewis Hulbert, 90, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 15, 2012, at A. O. Fox Memorial Hospital. He was born at home in Richfield Springs on April 21, 1922, the oldest son of Harry Lewis and Vida Pearl (Holbrook) Hulbert.

Clifford attended Laurens Central School. He married Letha Mae Beers, daughter of Jesse and Anna (Pearsall) Beers, on March 24, 1940, in Franklin, NY.

Clifford began his military service with Co. G of the Oneonta National Guard. He was inducted into the US Army June 15, 1944, serving as a Pvt. 1st Class in the European Theater. Clifford was honorably discharged on October 26, 1945. He was a life-time member of Laurens American Legion Post 1688.

After the war, Clifford returned to Bendix where he worked for over 30 years as a supervisor.
In his early years Clifford drove his red #9 Sprint Car on the racing circuit. He also enjoyed hunting and belonged to numerous bowling and golfing leagues over the years. Clifford was a past member of the Oneonta Elks, the Sidney Moose Club, and the Sidney Boat Club.

Clifford was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who loved everyone, especially the children. He will be sorely missed. Clifford is survived by his wife of 72 years, Letha, of West Oneonta. Also surviving are a son, Randolph (Susena) Hulbert of Milford; a daughter, Carla (Paul) Simonds of West Oneonta; grandchildren Cynthia Starr, Sandra (Kelly) Mallette, Jonathan Dean, Dustan McAdams, Kim (John) Villada, Cheryl Brown, Brian Hulbert, Darien (Darcy) Hulbert, Michael (Nancy Madore) Hulbert, Linda (Kenneth) Autry, Craig Dattel, Carl (Jill) Dattel, Clinton (Brenda) Dattel, Constance (Pat Renzullo) Monath, David (Annette) McGinty, Kelly (Louis "Steve") Spettel, Lisa (William) Fasoldt, Michelle Hulbert, Shane (Marisa) Simonds, Heather (Peter) Powell, and Tricia Simonds; special "granddaughter," Elme LeBourveau; special "niece," Noreen Mahoney; 43 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Joseph McAdams of Oneonta; daughters-in-law, Janice Hulbert of Naples, FL and Theodora Gransbury of Davenport; a sister-in-law, Pauline Peck of Albion; a brother-in-law, Earl (Doris) Beers of Cooperstown; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Donald and Ralph, his daughter Patricia McAdams, his sons Harry and Vaughn, his granddaughters Penny Hulbert and Patricia Dean and a grandson, Stephen Dattel.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19 at the Bookhout Funeral Home with Rev. Keith and Lydia Burnham of the West End Community Baptist Church, officiating. Burial, with military honors, will take place immediately after the service, at Cook Cemetery, St. Rt. 23, West Oneonta, NY.
