Clifford DeWitt Watson January 21, 1934 – February 26, 2011 Mr. Clifford DeWitt Watson, 77, born in Rosefield, Louisiana and a long time resident of Berwick passed this life Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. January 21, 1934 – February 26, 2011

Mr. Clifford DeWitt Watson, 77, born in Rosefield, Louisiana and a long time resident of Berwick passed this life Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, principal, coach, teacher, golfer and fishing buddy. Cliff was an active and dedicated member of the Berwick community. He served the Berwick school system in many capacities for more than three decades. During his years as coach, teacher, and principal he was present at almost all school functions and this continued after his retirement.
Cliff graduated from Jena High School in 1952 and went to Northeastern Louisiana University for his Degree in Education. He served his country in the U.S. Army for two years in Europe. Cliff received his Masters plus 30 from Louisiana State University. He served eight years on the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, and then the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1997 Cliff was inducted into Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame. He was also an original member of the Berwick Development District and was still serving in that capacity. In 2007 Cliff celebrated his conversion to the Catholic religion and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Sandra Naquin Watson; a son Roger D. Watson and his wife Margaret-Dunn of Waukesha, Wisconsin; a daughter Sheli Watson McGonagill of Berwick; Six brothers: J. C. Watson and wife Barbara of Monroe; Morris Watson and wife Ollabell of Tallulah; Leo Watson and wife Leona of Tallulah; Theo Watson and wife Maydell of Tallulah; Virgil Watson and wife Gail of Monroe; Shelby Watson and wife Brenda of West Monroe; four sisters: Shirley Turner and husband Ernest (d) of West Monroe; Linda Carter and husband Ronald of West Monroe; Kathy Jordan and husband Kenneth of Birmingham, AL; Virginia Hornbeck and husband Ronnie of Dickson, Tenn. Six grandchildren: Meghan Yohann, Cliff and Michael Watson, Shannon, Maddi, and Tristan McGonagill.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Meledia Poole Watson and a brother Baby Watson.
In Lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the "Cliff and Sandra Watson Memorial Fund" at Patterson State Bank for use toward the extracurricular activities at Berwick High School.
A time of remembrance and reflection will be at Hargrave Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will continue at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
Cliff will be laid to rest in the Berwick Mausoleum.
