Clifton Andrew Petersen, 85, of Davenport, formerly of Bellevue, IA passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport where he was a member. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7:00 PM at the Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.

Clifton was born July 15, 1927 in Ladysmith, WI; the son of Peter and Marie (Fries) Petersen. He graduated at age 16 from Welton High School in 1944. He then married Ruth C. Clark on December 11, 1948; having renewed their vows for their 60th wedding anniversary at All Saints Catholic Church in Sanford, FL. He served as a military police officer in the US Army.

In his earlier years he farmed in the Otter Creek area. He then farmed in the Delmar, IA area and later moved to Preston, IA where he farmed and also owned and operated Copper Creek Village. He retired from Chemplex Chemical Company in Clinton. He was a member of the Preston AMVETS and while living in Bellevue, was a member of the Bellevue AMVETS.

Clif was a snowbird wintering 21 years in the Sanford, FL area.

Clif was a kind, loving and gentle man who always put others ahead of himself.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ruth, Davenport; children, Pamela J. (Petersen) Colvin, Longwood, FL and Brad J. (Karen) Petersen, Moline, IL; grandchildren: Alexandra and Andrew Colvin; Ashley (Isaac) Martinez; great granddaughter, Stella and a brother, Arwin Petersen, DeWitt, IA. His parents and three children and two sisters preceded him in death.
