Clyde C. North, Jr., passed away peacefully at his home in Westwood, KS July 29, 2013. Clyde was born April 18, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to Clyde and Hazel North. He is survived by his loving wife Rita Jane (Walsh) of 64 years; Sons: Patrick North, Scottsdale, AZ, and Lawrence and Jan North, Springhill, KS; Grandson, Ryan and Andrea North, O.P., KS; and great grandkids: Jack, Ella and JJ North. He is also survived by his brother Joe (Bud) North, O.P., KS and sister Katherine Burton, Denver, CO. He is preceded in death by his loving daughter Carol. Clyde graduated from Glennon High School and Rockhurst College. He proudly served in the Navy (1945-47), was the CEO and owner of the North Real Estate and Investment Company and was involved and supported several local organizations and charities. He was a standout athlete loving all sports and excelled in baseball playing in the Local Ban Johnson and American Legion Leagues and in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. After his baseball career he excelled in handball. As a founding member of the Kansas City Athletic Club, he won many local and regional tournaments and State Titles in both Kansas and Missouri. During his handball career he was a committed public relations ambassador for the sport he loved securing endless television, radio and newspaper press for all who played the sport. He was a master of the ceiling shot, which drove his opponents crazy and kept them on the court for long periods of time. Although Clyde accomplished so much during his time with us, he would say that his greatest achievement is his family and friends, he always put their needs before his own. He was one of the organizers of the "Famous Friday Breakfast Club" which began at Nichols Lunch, then Bob Evans and now resides at the Village Inn in Mission, KS. Several celebrities have attended the Club, including George Brett. He took great pride in all his friendships and enjoyed endless conversations about sports and politics. He was always positive, upbeat and concerned about how you were doing. Over the past several years you could always find Clyde at his favorite restaurant, Sutera's on Rainbow Blvd., chatting it up with friends. He was blessed with great friends and will be missed by all. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:00am, followed by a visitation from 9:30am to 11:00am, and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, on Thursday, August 1st, 2013, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Rd., Roeland Park, KS 66205. Burial will be at 3:30pm in Queen of the Holy Rosary Wea Cemetery in Bucyrus, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the KCAC Foundation, 845 Armstrong, KC, KS 66106 or to the Special Olympics Kansas, 5280 Foxridge Drive, Mission, KS 66202.
