Concetta (Amenta) Calafiore, age 89, of Solarino, Italy, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widower of Michele Calafiore whom she was married to for 60 years and who died in 1999. Mrs. Calafiore was born in Solarino, Italy, July 11, 1924, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Anna (Amenta) and came to America and resided with her daughter, Itria and her husband, Tony. She was employed as a seamstress for Vento Sewing and American Bazaar. She was a communicant of St. Ann Church. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and spent most of her time with her grandchildren. She will be most remembered by her strong devotion to her Catholic faith and her generous and thoughtful acts of kindness. She was always willing to lend a helping hand whether it was baking cookies for a special occasion or making homemade pasta for her family. She always had a smile for everyone.
She is survived by her son, Salvatore and his wife, Elizabeth, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; one daughter, Itria and her husband, Tony Doca, of Plainville; one brother, Michele and his wife, Maria, of Solarino, Italy; six grandchildren, Alessandro, Giuseppe and Maurizio Doca, Laura LaChance, Ann Tropea and Cinzia Nelson; 11 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; eight nieces and five nephews, and she is predeceased by one son, Giuseppe Calafiore.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by a funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church. Burial will be Solarino, Italy. Visitation for friends and family will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
