Constance Riva Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 24, 2016.

Constance Ligon Riva departed this world unexpectedly on October 24, 2016. She was 57 years old.

Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, to Barbara and Guy C. Ligon, Jr., she was the third of four children. As a girl she loved bicycle riding, practicing ballet and horseback riding.

Connie married Ken Riva in 1982. To fulfill her dream of raising a family, she left her job at IBM Corporation in Westchester County, New York, to become a full time homemaker upon the birth of her son, Christian. Four years later another son, Adam, was born.

The family spent time in North Carolina and Florida before settling in West Milford, New Jersey in 1998. Connie became an active and invaluable member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church community, spending countless hours assisting with the “St. Joseph Cares” food pantry. She also served as a Eucharistic minister. Combining her love of literature and children, Connie found joy volunteering as the elementary school librarian.

In 2014, the couple moved to Jacksonville, Florida.

To those who had the fortune of knowing Connie, they already know words alone are not sufficient in describing her. To those who had yet to befriend her, Connie was renowned for her devotion to her family, outstanding culinary skills, and quick-witted humor.

She is survived by her husband, Ken, sons Christian and Adam Riva, father Guy Ligon, sisters Michele Snyder and Marie Murphy, and brother Guy C. Ligon, III.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 8:00pm on Friday, November 11 in Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road West Milford, New Jersey 07480 973-728-898. A Mass of Christian Burial and Internment will be at 11:00am on Saturday, November 12, in St. Joseph Church, 454 Germantown Road West Milford, New Jersey 07480 973-697-6100.
