Cora Pavur Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 3, 2017.

Cora “Kay” Joubert Pavur went to be with the Lord on August 02, 2017, following a lengthy illness. She was 86 years old.

Cora was born on September 14, 1930 in Washington, Louisiana to Edna and Ladie Joubert. She grew up there and later married Lawrence “Larry” Pavur. They made their home in New Orleans, LA. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Beverly Harvey and Ena Meche, both of Washington, LA.

Cora was deeply religious, and a lifelong Catholic. She was a founding member of the Mary’s Helpers, and Saint Raphael the Archangel, Prayer groups. She was also active at The Center of Jesus the Lord, and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

In her earlier years, she had done Classified Work for the Federal Government, thru the Department of the Navy. She was also a licensed cosmetologist, and a founding member, and group leader, of two Sjogren’s Syndrome Support Groups.

She will always be remembered for her devout faith, a bright wit, and excellent sense of humor. She had a genuine love for people, and never met a stranger. She touched countless people throughout her life.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Larry Pavur, son Scott Pavur of Baker, LA, son Bradd Pavur, wife Catherine, and children Stephanie and Jonathan, of Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Funeral Mass will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM until service time. Interment will follow at All Saint’s Mausoleum.

She specifically wanted to acknowledge close family friend Mr. Gary Gleason, whom she often referred to as her “adopted son”, as well as her best friend of over 50 years, Mrs. Jackie Chalin.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Speeg, Terri Hobgood, as well as her wonderful caregivers from Home Instead.

In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred, or donations may be made, under The Honor Donation Program, in her name, to The Sjogren’s Syndrome Foundation.

After my mom passed years ago, Mrs. Kay became my "adopted" mom. She was always concerned about my wellbeing. She was so thoughtful in never missing a birthday or Christmas with a card. Her prayers were powerful. My prayers go out to the family in this time of loss, especially my friend Scott who has sacrificed so much the last several years in tending to his moms needs. My prayer is that you will be blessed from the Lord with that peace that surpasses all understanding. She will be missed, but forever in our hearts.

Dear Uncle Larry, Scott, and Bradd,
I will always remember the happy times I had when I stayed at your house, while my Mother, Shirley went to the hospital to have my new baby brother or sister. Aunt Cora was always kind, caring, and loving. She was fun to be with!
We will miss Aunt Cora very much, but know that she is enjoying her special mansion in Heaven, prepared just for her, by Jesus Himself forever!
Our love, thoughts, and prayers are for you, Scott, and Bradd always.

Dear Uncle Larry, Scott, Bradd, and family,

I have many nice memories of your mom. Aunt Cora was very friendly and talkative. I remember the many conversations she had with my mother, and they both enjoyed them so much. She was very proud of both of you, Scott and Bradd. I know she loved having so many years with Uncle Larry. May God bless you all and comfort you during this time. Love, Kathy Pavur Folse

Dear Uncle Larry, Scott, Bradd and Family,
Aunt Cora was very special to me; she was the poster child of what a loving aunt is. I enjoyed every moment I was in her company or the countless phone conversations I had with her. Aunt Cora will be deeply missed. She left her mark on earth with raising two outstanding sons (Scott & Bradd) with Uncle Larry. My condolences to Uncle Larry, Scott and Bradd for the loss of such a wonderful mom and wife. My prayers and love are with you during this difficult time.

Nothing in life is by chance, all things are purposed by the Lord. Hurricane Katrina brought us from Warrington Drive in New Orleans to the same neighborhood in Baker. Your spirit of charisma blessed me in every conversation we had.

By coincidence both of our families were displaced by Hurricane Katrina, and by chance we both located in Baker, where we met. The Lord has his ways of bringing people together. Her son Scott truly honored his mother and took care of her till the end. Elsie & David Saunders
