Cora Barney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 19, 2012.

Cora Green Barney, age 95, passed away December 19,2012 at the Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Oneonta, NY.

Cora was born December 26, 1916 to Grant and Bertha (Tamsett/Lent) Green at the family home in West Oneonta.

Cora graduated from Oneonta High School in 1935. She was a 1936 graduate of Albany Business College. From 1936-1942 she worked as a secretary for TP-TM Hughson Insurance in Oneonta, NY.

Upon her marriage to Harold A. Barney on June 18, 1942 she became a full time housewife. She and Harold first lived on Rose Avenue in Oneonta, NY and then moved to a home they had built on Rt 23 in West Oneonta, NY. She and Harold
took great pride in their home, keeping the home well-maintained inside and outside. Cora had several collections of bells, thimbles, teacups, teapots, and various interesting plates.

Cora continued to live at the West Oneonta home for about five years after Harold died. When her health failed and she could no longer live there she became a resident of the Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in 2007.

Cora was predeceased by her son Charles, husband, Harold, brothers Carl and Owen, and sisters Louise, Velma, and Ruth.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Esther (Robert J) Reynolds; granddaughter Mary Reynolds and partner Becky Johnson, great-grandsons Tyler and Zachary Yim; sisters Marcia Phillips and Marian Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Cora has requested no calling hours and no funeral. The family will hold a remembrance service at a later date.

Instead of flowers the family request that donations be made to The West Oneonta Baptist Church, West Oneonta, NY 13861 or the Residence Fund at The Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 330 Chestnut St, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Dear Esther and Family: Our sincerest condolences on the loss of your Mom. We know exactly how you feel because we lost our Mom in August. Mere words can't express how much we loved our Moms but we can be assured they are both with the Lord today looking down upon us as our guardian angels in heaven. As the psalmist writes: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." (Psalm 116:15). Be assured that God's love and grace will bring you through this time of loss and sadness. Please let us know when you will have the memorial service for Aunt Cora.
With much love, in His precious name,
Robert, SunHee, David, Christine and Family here in Virginia.
