Biography

Corrine "Cookie" Altherr Born February 26, 1934 to Robert and June Lamping. She was the youngest of three siblings, perhaps that is how she learned to listen with both her ears and her heart. It could also be why she was so strong and fought so hard. Cookie worked for the telephone company, D. G. Mars, Sears Roebuck, and retired from the Chicago Board of Education as a vision tester. She married Clemens J. Altherr on November 27, 1954, and then moved to San Diego California. In 1955 her first son Michael was born, followed by daughters, Deborah in 1956 and Diana in 1959 and son Mark in 1963. Cookie had an adventurous spirit, always up to trying something new. If she saw something she wanted to do or be part of, there was nothing that would stand in her way. Proof in point, how many 76 year olds do you know that go zip lining? Cookie always surrounded herself with loved ones and friends. It was during those times she was at her happiest place. The occasional “CLEM” or for her children . . . “Michael Robert,” “Deborah Stephanie,” “Diana Lynn.” or “Mark Andrew,” you new that what was coming next, was going to be a learning experience. She used rhymes such as, “Mark, Mark proud and able, get your elbows off the table,” as instruments of teaching table manners. Her life was filled with many ups and downs. In Cookie’s case that was great, as we know how much she enjoyed a Great Roller Coaster Ride! We were all blessed to be a part of that ride. ...

In Cookie’s case that was great, as we know how much she enjoyed a Great Roller Coaster Ride! We were all blessed to be a part of that ride.

After retiring and with husband in tow, Cookie relocated to Henderson Nevada in 2001. Living in Henderson for a little over 10 years, she went “sight seeing” often.

The fantastic adventure that was Cookie’s life came to an end May 19, 2012. Anyone who was fortunate enough to be a part of her life can consider themselves truly blessed.
