Coy U. Bolick, 83, of Charlotte, NC, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Docia Harrison Bolick of Boone, NC, passed away Thursday July 10th, 2014. Following 2 years of service in the Army during the Korean Conflict, he graduated from Appalachian State Teacher's College, completing a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in School Administration. After teaching in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, Mr. Bolick co-owned a local service station, later contracting to service tires for several major freight lines within a 100 mile radius of Charlotte. Coy U. Bolick, 83, of Charlotte, NC, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Docia Harrison Bolick of Boone, NC, passed away Thursday July 10th, 2014. Following 2 years of service in the Army during the Korean Conflict, he graduated from Appalachian State Teacher's College, completing a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in School Administration.
After teaching in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, Mr. Bolick co-owned a local service station, later contracting to service tires for several major freight lines within a 100 mile radius of Charlotte. He also built miniature golf courses from the mountains of West Virginia to the deltas of New Orleans.
Mr. Bolick returned to teaching in the 60's at Charlotte Christian School, where he also served as a board member. In the 70's, he returned to public education in Gaston County, retiring after dedicating 30 years of his life in total to teaching and school administration. And in the 80's Mr. Bolick served as a deacon at Sharon Baptist Church.
During his retirement years, Mr. Bolick grew Christmas trees (on his mountain acreage in Watauga County) which he sold himself in Charlotte, NC, earning the name "The Christmas Tree Man".
Mr. Bolick was a beloved husband, a loving father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Templeton Bolick; daughters Janice Bolick of Charlotte, Julie (and husband David) of Virginia Beach, VA; grandsons Evan Jones and Daniel Jones; sisters: Christine Harmon and Cleo Cook of Boone, Nadine Willard of Mt. Airy; and brother, Ben Bolick, of White Plains.
A service to celebrate the life of Coy Bolick will be held Sunday July13, 2014 at Union Grove Christian Church 1855 Memorial Highway Harmony, NC. The family will receive friends beginning at 3pm ahead of the 4pm funeral service, followed by a time of fellowship for family and friends.
