He was born June 21, 1957 in Freeport, Illinois to Clinton and LaVonne (Bryant) Metz.

Craig graduated from St. Clair Shores High School in 1976. He played several sports including basketball, football and track and field. But his "claim to fame" was when he broke the record for the high jump, using a technique called the "Fosbury Flop". He worked for Crysler Motor Company during his senior year.

He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1978 and served three years. He did his basic training at M.C.R.D. in San Diego, California. He went to the fleet where he was assigned to the 2ND BN/9TH Marines as a 0311. He also went through warfare training in Mt. Fugi, Japan. Craig had the honor of going to Iwa Jima where he climbed Mt. Suribachi. He was honorably discharged in 1981. He was extremely proud of his service to his country and very grateful for the experience because he felt that it helped mold him into the man he later became. One of the motto's of the Marine Corp is, "Improvise, Adapt and Overcome". He was especially fond of this and adopted it as a philosophy for his own life. Everyone who knew him, knew that this is truly how he lived his life.

Craig married Kelly Saunders on September 30, 1995 in Traverse City, MI.

He retired from Cintas last year, after fifteen years as Production Supervisor. He enjoyed his work and took his responsibilities seriously. Cintas meant a lot to him, as well as the people he worked with.

He was a member of the Kingsley Sportsman' Club and enjoyed shooting his 38 Special. His biggest passion in life was cooking. He also enjoyed video/computer games. He was a ranger at Crystal Lake Golf Club and loved playing the game. He enjoyed the challenge of perfecting his skills.

Craig is survived by his his wife Kelly; children: Jessica Good, of Alanson, Stephanie Cope of Boyne City, Anthony and Kayla Metz both of Kingsley; two brothers: Todd and Bryan Metz, both of McPherson, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Abey, Alyssa, Emily, Jenna, Isaac, Lillian and Parker; uncles: Truman Bryant, Jake and Bunny Metz, all of Freeport, Illinois.
Besides his parents, Craig was preceded in death by his daughter Laura Metz, and grandmother, Marion Bryant.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11 a.m with visitation one hour prior at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley.

The family would like to invite everyone to join them at the American Legion Post 219, 10283 Michigan 186, Fife Lake, MI 49633 immediately following the service. Please come help continue to celebrate Craig's life.

"I knew Craig when was around 12 years old. His father was friend of my father and a employee. I remember. Craig as a happy kid who was good natured and fun..." Charles Lynch (Newman Lake, WA)
