Christina Kertesz (Hallberg), of Boulder, passed away Sunday, January 7 at home surrounded by her family exactly as she always wanted. She was a loving wife to husband, Peter, and a devoted mother to her children, Veronica, Tom, and Christopher. The family will miss her very much, especially all the love, humor and warmth she spread to everyone.
Christina was born in Finland and attended the University of Arizona as a Fulbright Scholar. There she graduated with a Bachelor's degree and that is where she met the love of her life, her husband Peter. They lived in Arizona, the Bay Area in California and Loveland Colorado. They moved to Boulder in 1971, and Christina decided she had found her true home.
Christina's main passion was gardening and the gardens surrounding her home have been featured in many publications and local garden tours. She was a Master Gardener for almost 20 years where she devoted herself to helping others improve their lives through gardening. She also was the first Volunteer of the Year in 2005 for Boulder County Parks and Open Space. Her enjoyment of gardening was a reflection of her love for all forms of fine art, music and fashion, which created a beautiful, warm home for her family. Her cooking and entertaining skills were also well known; she especially enjoyed participating in the Colorado Musical Festival's fundraising dinners. She loved playing Tennis year around with her regular partners and the family enjoyed many ski vacations to Steamboat and Copper Mountain. She also loved traveling with her husband; she especially remembered their trips to Japan, the Far East, Australia, Fiji, Europe and Hawaii.
There will be private services for the family and a celebration of her life is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in honor of Christina Kertesz to the Colorado Music Festival, 200 E. Baseline Road, Lafayette CO, 80026: www.comusic.org.

Our heartfelt condolences to Peter and family. My husband worked with Peter for several years at PAR Associates (Peter's Company). I remember going to dinner at their house once and was absolutely amazed at Christina's garden. In fact, I was just telling my son about this amazing garden yesterday, not knowing Christina had passed on. Our prayers are with you Peter, and your family.

I am so sorry that Christina has passed on. I knew her as a Gardener Extraordinaire! Touring her gardens was always such a treat! And it was always a joy to join her for Master Gardener projects and events, and see her at various plant sales. She was such a charming lady! My heartfelt sympathies go out to her family.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of this lovely, elegant, talented neighbor. While I didn't know Christina well, I was always amazed by her grace and charm. Whenever I was toiling in my garden and she walked by with her beloved dog Nicky, we would chat about gardening, about which she was so knowledgeable. Bill and I send heartfelt condolences to Peter (also a walker) and her family.

We send our sympathies to Peter and his family as we know Christina will be so missed. She was a wonderful neighbor and always admired her working in her garden that was her joy and pride. Also, have fond memories of playing tennis with her a couple of times years ago at the then 'Harvest House'. Again, Kent and I send our sympathies to her family.

We also knew Christina through our friend and neighbor Veronica and her brother Chris. While we didn't know Christina well, she always had a smile and a friendly word when we saw her, and certainly her children are the best examples of her spirit, kind and generous and thoughtful. Our thoughts are with this wonderful family.

I met Christina through her daughter and my friend, Veronica. Christina was engaging, bright and young spirited. She fit right in with our gatherings. I also remember the first time I saw her garden. It was enormous and had to be a labor of love year after year. She raised and nurtured a wonderful family. My heart and thoughts go out to Peter, Veronica, Tom and Chris. She will be greatly missed.
