Dagny May Hull of Lubbock went Home on December 17, 2012 at the age of 91. She was born in Fargo, North Dakota on May 10, 1921 to Emil and Oline Headland. She was the baby of the family, raised on a dairy farm with a brother and four sisters. She has now been reunited with the Dad that she lost when she was only three years old. After attending a one room school, then College High School, she graduated from Moorhead Teachers College at the age of 18 and began a long teaching career.
She married the love of her life, George Roswell Hull (Roz) on December 24, 1942. A few months later, Lt. Hull was deployed overseas for the duration of WWII, while Dagny educated youngsters at home. After his return, they were stationed in Brazil, then numerous other places in the U.S. During this time they were blessed with two daughters and a son who accompanied them for a three year stay in Japan.
In 1960 Lt. Colonel Hull was named Professor of Aerospace Studies in charge of ROTC at Texas Tech and the family relocated to Lubbock. Dagny then earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education at Tech. She served as Chairman of the Officers Wives Club and the Cadet Wives Club, Choir Director for St. Mark Presbyterian Church and she continued to teach 5th grade then 6th grade and music at Stubbs Elementary School for twenty years.
She enjoyed traveling, riding her motorcycle, and being involved with her grandchildren. After retiring, she built a successful Shaklee business and enjoyed the many letters of appreciation and gratitude that she received from former students and their parents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Mildred Kiesser, Solveig Barnett and Elna Quigley and one brother, Emil Headland.
She is survived by two daughters and a son: Pamela and Jerry Givens of Abernathy, Deborah and Don Fischer of Dallas, and Jack and Jan Hull of Lubbock. She leaves behind four grandchildren: Mike Givens and children Gavin and Shambree of Abernathy, Robert and Wimberly Givens and children Jayci and Ritt of New Braunfels, Parker and Missy Hull and daughter Jemma Jo of Little Rock, Arkansas and Tyler Hull of Odessa. And she will be missed by sister, Borge Bohlken, sister in law, Nellie Alderman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
We are so proud and thankful to have had her for our mother and we celebrate her life and rejoice in knowing that she and her beloved Roz will share their 70th Anniversary in Heaven on Christmas Eve!
Viewing will be on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Resthaven funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 64291, Lubbock, Texas 79464.
