Dale Pruitt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 21, 2014.

Dale Pruitt, 96, set sail to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, December 20, 2014. She suffered a stroke on December 12th. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd at 11:30 a.m. at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 S., Abilene. Funeral services will follow the same day as visitation at the funeral home chapel at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel. Pastor Jerry McNeil of Abilene and Pastor Ronnie Newton of Granbury will be officiating. Pallbearers are, Jeffrey Pruitt, Gabriel Pruitt, Sean Pruitt, Lee Shelley, David Jackson, and David Sharpe.
Dale was born November 6, 1918, in Comanche, TX, to George Custer Phillips and Maude Lucy Jane Wilson Phillips, raised in Abilene. On June 11, 1938, she married F.M. Pruitt, of Abilene. Together they had two children: Sherry Lois and Glen Aulton. She was a wonderful loving and encouraging mother and "Nana". She was loved by all who knew her. For many years, Dale loved being a part of The First Evangelical Methodist Church family. She served as president of the Abilene Ladies Police Auxiliary, played volleyball, and bowled (bowling numerous 200 games) with the auxiliary ladies.
Dale was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Johnny and Henry; four sisters, LaVoy Smith (Pops), Ruth Dunn (Jinx), Mildred Cook (Shine), and Mary Lois Cornish (Babe). She fondly recalled her daddy's nicknames for her and her sisters as he would say to Dale, "(Bug), make us a cake."
She is survived by her children, Sherry Brown of Austin, and Glenn Pruitt and his wife Nolvia of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Monique Farr-Dines, Jeffrey and Christi Pruitt of Ft. Worth, Gabriel and Stacy Pruitt of Ft. Worth, and Sean and Priscilla Pruitt of Newcastle, Wyoming; and eight great-grandchildren.
We were all so blessed for the care given by the Hendrick's Hospice staff, the Thursday evening heavenly hospice choral group, Jordan Health Care, and the Meals on Wheels angels. She is and will be missed! I lieu of flowers please make a donation to Meals on Wheels, 717 N. 10th St., Abilene, TX 79601.

We at Kenley School loved Mrs. Pruitt so much since we moved next door to her in 1980. We had fire drills on her lawn, and always loved to see her on her front porch. We will miss her so much.

I can not put in to words the meaning that Dale had on my life. She was like my Nana too. She took time out of her life, to travel with me, and let me yank and pull on her hair, and polish her fingernails while I went through my State Cosmetology Test. She was always so very sweet to me, throughout my whole life, and loved me. I have never met a bigger Dallas Cowboy fan, and I will so miss her, and her spark that she gave to others. She will be missed. I love you guys. Sorry I couldn't be at her service, it saddens my heart so much not to be there. I am praying for you all, and I love you all beyond words.

I have known Dale for 48 or 50 years. We went bowling to many tournaments on vacations together. We were in Dallas for a bowling tournament and I turned left too short. Dale had a black eye and I had a cut on my cheek and bump on my head but we won in partners. I wil miss you when I go to the phone to call because you were always there for me. You always had great advice. By the way there was something wrong with the car but with prayer we made it home. I will miss you and see in the blink of an eye. See you later. After while Crocodile! Love, Pat
