Dale N. Alles, 87 of Roanoke passed away at 3:47am on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital. Dale was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran who served as a plane captain on the aircraft carrier the USS Monterey. He was a mail carrier in Roanoke for 12 years. He farmed for almost 50 years in Huntington and Whitley Counties and he called square dancing for over 40 years. Dale N. Alles, 87 of Roanoke passed away at 3:47am on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital. Dale was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran who served as a plane captain on the aircraft carrier the USS Monterey. He was a mail carrier in Roanoke for 12 years. Dale was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke and was also a member of the American Legion Post 160 of Roanoke.

Dale was born on October 17, 1926 in Whitley County, a son of Philip and Freida (Ness) Alles.

He was united in marriage to Naomi M. Geels on May 5, 1951 in Decatur. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2002.

Survivors include three sons: Dennis Alles of Roanoke; Patrick (Denise) Alles of Roanoke; Joseph Alles of Chapel Hill, TN; a son-in-law: Terry Hattendorf of Huntington; six daughters: Janet (Michael) Sheets of Waynedale; Carol (Kevin) Stopher of Fort Wayne; Diane (Jerry) Eckert of Huntington; Barbara Carroll of Roanoke; Mary (Terry) Smith of Roanoke; Lisa (Kevin) Sauter of Fort Wayne; a brother: Devon (Dorothy) Alles of New Haven; a sister: Patricia (Francis) Laux of Bryant, IN; 23 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Catherine Hattendorf; four brothers: Herbert, Joseph, Ivo and Paul Alles; a sister: Phyllis Hermes and a son-in-law: Scott Carroll.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 10:00am with visitation prior to the service from 8:30am – 10:00am at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 641 N. Main Street, Roanoke with Father Dale Bauman officiating.

Interment will take place at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Roanoke.

Memorial donations may be made out to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to American Legion Post 160 Color Guard both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
