Dale was born on November 19, 1946 in Rock Island, the son of Ben and Rose (Hancq) Hofer. He was a veteran of Vietnam, having served with the Army, and was awarded a Purple Heart during his service. He went to work for Case in Bettendorf, Iowa, and worked there for over 30 years, retiring from the East Moline plant in 2004.

In his free time he enjoyed dirt track racing, which was a family affair. He also was a fan of NASCAR, and many other sports. He loved to read, play cards, attend car shows, and listen to classic rock music. Spending time with his family was important to him, and he loved dancing and joking around. Dale enjoyed his trips to the East Moline Maid-Rite. His days were not complete without a Pepsi, and a Hershey's candy bar or Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

Survivors include his children, Melissa (Tony) Maynard, Matherville, Angela Hofer (fiancé Brad Anderson), Coal Valley, Crystal Hofer, Milan, Brooke (Tylor) Enstrom, Milan, Dale Hofer, Jr., Davenport, and Madilynn Hofer, Phoenix, AZ; sister, Sherrie (Joe) Slininger, East Moline; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and special friend, Deb.

His parents and an infant sister, Debbie, preceded Mr. Hofer in death.
